They always do.
I don't get that show. The only possible appeal to it I can see is a "so bad that it's funny" angle which I don't think works when you do it intentionally. Especially when you do it intentionally for decades.

Plus there were really heavy rumors that it was gonna happen. It's not a big deal since this isn't some random sjw mutation, it's explained in the show that a time lord can change appearances to the point of changing genders.

I mean what's next? First he's a man, then a woman, then a reptile, hell why not a different alien? This diversity for diversity's sake. It's the same slippery slope that exists for gay marriage. Well that's it I'm just not gonna watch doctor who anymore until they start making sense, IF that happens.

I don't watch Doctor Who. Does the current Doctor pass on the title of Doctor to a new person like every 5 years, or is it a completely new storyline in a different universe when there is a new Doctor?

It's the same being. His race can simply regenerate into a new form with a new personality when the current body gives out. It's also been established this can involve changing gender, race, etc.

I don't disagree about it's power or the name being dumb. Despite that though it had some great exclusives

The hardware is/was irrelevant. It had enough (actual) exclusives to warrant a purchase.

And you can tell who the misogynists are if they're talking about dropping Doctor Who because of this.

Why buy any console if it doesn't have exclusives? They're all pretty much the same hardware-wise, so if something's on PC as well as consoles, I'll buy it for my PC and play it at much higher graphical levels. No reason to drop $300-400 on a piece of hardware if I can play the games elsewhere.

Pretty simple.

Because it's not about female characters. It's about forcing a change in culture.

Most of those yelling about how great it is don't care that it's a female character. They're celebrating removing a male one.

They see it as doing one of two things:

1) It stays popular and they can point to it and go "See they did it why don't you now" to other creators.

2) It fails and they can blame the poor ratings on the evil sexists out there. Thus backing up their world view that everything is sexist and against them.

If they really cared about female leads they'd have mentioned how good the Sarah Jane Jane adventure was, celebrating Gwen in Torchwood or you know supporting a female lead Sci-Fi series like Continnum.

They go after big names because they want to force cultural change and force people to accept their new normal or be pushed out.

Look up Atheism Plus or the claims of how walking simulators were the future of video games and people not liking them should leave gaming

Is Doctor Who a good show?

It's certainly a long-runner and science fiction / British cultural icon. The older series are very much B-movie in their presentation, due to a limited budget, but the revived series has much better production values. The time-traveling nature of the show across the galaxy, allows it to easily accommodate an episodic structure, much like Star Trek, while having some longer plot arcs, usually on a seasonal basis. Each regeneration of the Doctor gives a new actor with a different appearance and portrayal, which also serves to refresh the show. And of course, it's well known for its monsters... especially the Daleks.

Dalek: WHAT? HE HAS NOT WATCHED OUR SHOW? EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!!!!!

Just kidding with that last part... but the Daleks are its most recognizable villains... think alien Nazis out to EXTERMINATE! all non-Dalek life.... except their bodies are actually quite frail, so they armor themselves in a heavily armed casing that kind of looks like a pepper shaker in shape with an eyestalk camera and a ray gun sticking out of it.

Then there are the Cybermen. They don't want to kill you. They just want to "upgrade" you into one of them, and get rid of those pesky things called emotions. They're kind of like the Borg. Of course, if you resist being upgraded, they may decide that you need to be "deleted".

Then for paranoia fuel, in the new series, there are the aliens known as the Silence. Their power is that you will immediately forget all about a Silent as soon as you look away from it.
Or for a more classic villain, the Weeping Angels, which look like statues and only move to attack you when you aren't looking at them.

But it has far more villains too, including the Master, the evil counterpart to the time-traveling Doctor.

And that's kind of the point. Why WOULD you go for an inferior option if a better one is available? Why DO you? Exclusives. This shit would not fly in other markets, is the point.

Is James Bond always supposed to be the same person, even when portrayed by different actors (ala Sherlock Holmes)? If so, then sure let's keep him the same.

Cybermen: We have three million Cybermen. How many are you?

Dalek: Four.

Cybermen: You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?

Dalek: We would destroy the Cybermen with ONE Dalek! You are superior in only one respect: you are better at dying.

....the Daleks were winning, btw

Typically, when you get emotional about something (definitely not this case), you lose all objectivity. When a good portion of the viewership has swayed toward female, it's not a big leap to think they will try casting a female for that reason. That seems like pandering to me.
