TC, that is actually the way to go. There are lots of items that you shouldn't be paying supermarket-premium prices for.
Not everything, but many things. And you'll save at least 1K per year doing it. Sooo many things are overpriced in typical supermarket chains.

in all seriousness if you actually can afford it it's worth it to switch off of name brand stuff and buy fresh when you can
i mean while you have to because money's tight, it's fine like you're not DYING because you're filling your body with a few preservatives here and there i mean we're all dying sylvia plath but not moreso because of what you're eating really but if you can afford it.... it's better but when i'm inevitably broke again i'll look into dis hmm

I will go to the supermarket and get their house brand. But I don't think I would go the dollar store for food. Not saying that it is bad that you do. That would just worry me. why would it worry you? joeun_saram posted... in all seriousness if you actually can afford it it's worth it to switch off of name brand stuff and buy fresh when you can i was previously buying fresh every week and was doing fine, but decided it was an unnecessary expense |
I love getting produce at the 99c only store
Bell peppers for .50 Bananas for .49/lb Gigantic mangos and avocados Bean sprouts Spinach Onions Grapes Strawberries Think I even got one of those small seedless watermelons once Then the dollar tree near me has bread (pretty average wheat and white, but then they also have these huge sourdough loaves) and those s***ty frozen hamburgers I love, and instant noodles Hell yeah, totally agree

dollar tree is a great store. the only thing i'd never buy there is meat. for s***s and giggles i tried their coldcuts yesterday. not cost effective, but their plumrose ham is the same s*** in the supermarket. they have chicken thighs that ive been debating on trying too |

You tube videos speaking about how had that are. And come to think of it is kind of silly to suspect that they would be selling something deadly just because it is cheap.

...huh, haven't been to my local Dollar Tree in years, do they all have frozen and grocery stuff? I was only remembering it having snacks and maybe some offbrand soda.
We used to have a place called Deals that was initially all a dollar but eventually they went to a more Dollar General type pricing scheme. When I first moved out of my parents I did tons of my grocery shopping there, though. Huge grocery section. Not sure how big of a chain that was or if it still even exists, but once they became a DG clone there wasn't any reason to go there. I even got a few PC games there for a $1 that were pretty good, just a little old.

i get all my groceries at smart and final. they are the perfect mix of quality, portions, and price.
its like a mix of a costco and a regular supermarket cuz you can buy in bulk, but not too big of a bulk where its like you're buying 50 cans of tuna at once.

I was only remembering it having snacks and maybe some offbrand soda. it's a smaller selection, for sure but they've got frozen veggies, breakfast sausage, salmon, tilapia, breakfast sandwiches, microwave sandwiches, cold cuts, eggs (12 & 18ct), frozen pizza, dry pasta, sauces, and tons more it's lit |
With their lunch meat it doesn't look to be bad quality stuff just like three or four ounces which is maybe one sandwich. Not honestly buying three or four of them to equal the grocery store size probably comes to the same amount of money.
A frozen/refrigerator section at a dollar store does seem like a more recent development.

from what i'm reading it's prevalent in their "cheese shred product" which I havent bought and wont buy, as I read that it doesnt melt. they do have typical cheese slices which does contain trans fat, but i havent sworn off trans fat and see no reason to as my cholesterol has always been at optimal levels
