Immigrants do the jobs that Americans would never do. I don't like to make absolute statements like that because there are always exceptions out there. However I am reminded of a coworker who would complain about illegals all the time. He thought they were making a killing mowing lawns and not paying taxes. He even tried starting his own lawn mowing business that he would run on his days off. Didn't last very long before he gave that up. The problem with his line of thinking, coming from my point of view, was that we are paid well to do easy work by our company. Even when you counted the amount of money those "illegals" may have saved by not paying taxes (if true), and the amount of taxes taken out of our pay checks, we were still sure to be making 2-3 times as much. It just seemed pointless to me to be upset about how much they were making when I was doing just fine. Not only that, but the work conditions between the two job types is night and day. I just wouldn't see myself being envious of that. Sure didn't stop that fella from ranting all the time about "illegals" this and "illegals" that..... Oh well. |

There are a lot of jobs (fast food service, landscaping, construction, agriculture) that beg the question - who would do them if not illegal immigrants? How much would those jobs pay? How would that affect our quality of life?
Most illegal immigrants are working at jobs that are disproportionately dangerous given the risks involved - agriculture and construction are dangerous jobs, for example. How much would those jobs pay if there wasn't cheap labor readily available?

Everytime I see the bathrooms at the theatre where I work, I can't believe people come in every night to clean them. That is one of those jobs you could never pay me enough to do, unless you are talking like $500/hour. No way am I going to disparage an immigrant that is willing to clean up after people who get s*** everywhere except for actually in the toilet.
The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.

Agriculture is actually the #1 most dangerous job in the USA. I think construction comes 2nd or 3rd. This pertains of course, only to on-the-job fatalities.

Local citizens. If they refused, the company would be forced to improve working conditions to attract them - more pay, more benefits etc. Everyone wins. That being said I'm not completely anti-immigration.
