I don't see a problem with neighborhoods and geographically compact towns passing ordinances like this, but it's disconcerting when a city as large as Los Angeles-- which encompasses one of the largest metropolitan regions in the US-- can unilaterally criminalize a victimless activity over a span of 500+ square miles.

Another source.

Not sure about rv’s but police have always had a thing for not liking people sleeping in cars, whether legal or not. Properly covered up with shades and such not sure how enforceable this will be.

It's not outright banned, you just can't park your car in certain areas and sleep in it, since that creates a public nuisance.

if it's parked legally what difference does it make if someone is sleeping inside?
Without reading the article and going by just the title...

Wow what a fucking disgusting piece of news. I hope those responsible for this suffer through serious hardships soon in their lives.

Homeowners and businesses do not want parked cars full of homeless people lining their streets. It hurts consumer business and harms property value.

They should provide legal replacements if their BS "Trying to help" statements are true.

City officials tell KPCC that the new rules are geared toward helping car- and RV-dwellers find appropriate places to post up.

the new rules will help service providers connect with people who are living in cars, so that they can offer them vouchers for housing and motel stays.

What's the purpose of this, exactly

To get the homeless who own cars to move out of their state and be homeless somewhere else. LA alone has something like 58,000 homeless I read earlier. They are just trying to dish it out on other states and get them to move along.

Either way, lol California, the armpit of America. Imagine being worse than Alabama or New Jersey.

So a liberal-run city (heck, a liberal-run state if I'm not mistaken) passes a law that criminalizes the poor...

... but it's everyone but liberals that's got a secret agenda to oppress the poor, m i ryt?

The qualifier of the law is "residential zones". So don't park there.

In what world is LA worse than those inbred infestations?
Sleeping in cars isnt bad. LIVING in one is the problem (except for RV).

Passing by the same car at the same spot always parked there with people living inside it is not pleasant. It is the equivalent of having a homeless camp in front of you, except it is a car and not a tent.

Creating a law for that is extreme, but understandable as it will annoy the owners of the houses or building that are in the street where someone decided to live in a car

If you have an RV you aren't homeless.
I faced it all and I stood tall- And did it my way.
Whenever I go to Cali last minute for a concert and don't have a room planned me and my girl pump up the inflatable bed fitted for the car and pay $10 to sleep in an overnight parking structure lol

Some major cities have literally had discreet initiatives which involved gathering up and shipping homeless people on buses to other cities to deal with.

The trick to building a hip city is to push the homeless to the suburbs then build 10 million bike lanes
