Weren’t we in a space race with Russia in the 60’s (or maybe prior, idk) for pretty much the same purpose — establishing dominance in space? Didn’t we spend millions of dollars just to go to the moon to be all like “LOL look we did it first, losers!” Yet Kennedy was praised for it.

I think a Space Force would be in violation of the Outer Space Treaty. But Trump probably will pull out from that. The only thing he probably doesn't want to pull out from is Ivanka Trump. Zing!

It's unnecessary at the moment considering the Chair Force already oversaw those duties and the other 3 branches do more air operations than they actually do. No sense in giving them even less to do.

If we're going to put weapons in orbit then it makes sense for that to be under the control of the military, not NASA.

There's already a section of the air force that deals with space. There's no way Trump will be able to send soldiers to space though. Imagine the shit show that would be the first soldier to die in space when there's no enemies there.

Yeah Congress' rationale originally for the Space Force was that the Air Force was taking a lot of the money meant for developing and maintaining space-based assets and then using it to fund regular aeronautics programs and stuff. That was the explicit reasoning behind it when they first brought this up in 2016.
