  3. Mayor Luigi: Anyone shouting 'Allahu akbar' in Venice will be shot
Luigi Brugnaro claims the Italian tourist hotspot is safer than Barcelona - where 14 people died being run down by a terrorist - saying that 'in contrast, we keep our guard up'

Venice's independent mayor has ordered cops to shoot ANYONE who shouts 'Allahu Akbar' - rather than risk a terror attack .

“In contrast with Barcelona, where they had not set up protection, we keep our guard up,” Burgnaro said. “If anyone runs into St Mark’s Square shouting ‘Allahu Akhbar’, we will take him down. A year ago I said after four steps, now after three. I will say it in Venetian: ‘Ghe Sparemo’ (We will shoot him).”

“In Venice, we arrested four terrorists who wanted to blow up the Rialto bridge, saying they wanted to go to Allah. But we’ll send them straight to Allah before they can do any damage,” Brugnaro said.

Mayor Dario Nardella of Florence mocked Brugnaro immediately after the speech and ran up to him shouting ‘Allahu Akbar,’ while Gnassi took to Facebook to suggest that he could not understand Brugnaro’s remarks because of his Venetian dialect.

“I have never been politically correct, I am incorrect,” Bruganaro responded. “I would shoot, we would shoot … if you want to kill me, maybe I will defend myself.”

Brugnaro has attracted controversy via his banning of forty nine books about discrimination and or homosexuality from the city's schools, including a French Book on gay parenting entitled "Jean Has Two Mums", and in declaring that there will be no gay pride parade in Venice.

Nobody is alienating them dude. If they are good people to begin with they agree with him, which means it has the opposite effect and they feel even more safe. Good people don't start committing acts of terrorism because somebody said something. You're acting like these are people right on the middle between good and evil and one little push will cause them to become terrorists. And we're the ones apparently "alienating" them? (again whatever that means). All you're doing is assuming, which is ridiculous. Good people don't just "decide" to become terrorists. If someone painted you as a villain (which they aren't painting these ordinary people as villains), would you be like "hey maybe you're right, I'm gonna go blow up a building"? How stupid does that sound? Use your head.

Also lol "Mayor Luigi" it just sounds funny as hell

He's doing the best he can to try to stop terrorism. Why is this an issue for you? Do you not agree that terrorism is bad? Stop making it about "Muslims". You guys are the only ones making it about Muslims. We all know that ISIS is a religion based organization, we all know they love to shout Alluh Ahkbar before they do something crazy. If you want to work together to get rid of the bad guys, then stop making everything about race and throwing the word "bigot" around when it's not even close to accurate and let the man do his job to protect his country. If anything, the fact that you KNOW they're trying their best to stop terrorism should be more than enough for you. Like, they're clearly trying to do the right thing to save people's lives from terrorists, and you have a problem with this.

Not defending terrorists. Simply highlighting how folks feeling attacked, isolated or alienated can be exploited by sociopaths from gangs, cartels, warlords, terrorists, cults, etc.

If a terrorist has a bomb vest, whether he says it or not, it's unlikely a cop gets the chance to shoot him before he detonates it.

Allahu Akbar. Takes less than a second to say. A cop would need to take the gun, aim and hit the guy or gal with expert precision.

...and since terrorists do suicide bombings in busy, loud, crowded areas good luck with that.

There exists a slight difference between simply using the phrase in your daily prayer routine or whatever and SHOUTING IT AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS IN A CROWDED MALL or whatever. One of these is indicative of bad s***, the other isn't.

And did the Mayor say "anyone who shouts it at the top of their lungs in a crowded mall will be shot"? No he said "anyone who shouts it will be shot", shouting "Allahu Akbar" is part of the Muslim call the prayer which is performed five times a day.

Yes but how loud is loud? These expressions are integrated into daily use in the Arabic and south Asian languages. If you're going by a clothes shop in a mall and you spot something nice, you might say "mashaAllah" or "subanAllah", and that's perfectly common.

So how loud is too loud where you start pointing guns at these phrases?

How to turn ordinary people into zealots and terrorists by constantly alienating them and painting them all as villains giving those wishing to exploit that anger major gains?

They're not ordinary people if the slightest insult against their religion turns them into terrorists.

It's kind of ironic though, since this is literally a common argument from people on the right when confronted with consequence to their actions. "b-b-but reducing their alt-right platforms, punishing them for being racist, etc.? you're just going to alienate them and push them toward being neo-nazis, white supremacist, violence, etc.!! muy freeze peach!1!!!1"

In Europe, YES IT f***ING DOES.

Just because terrorists have said that, it doesn't mean that everyone who says it is threatening to murder people, any more than having a mustache means that you're going to start a holocaust because Hitler also had a mustache.

And this is coming from an atheist who thinks that the whole notion of God is silly in the first place.

People saying it as a prayer in a Mosque or rug-room, no problem.

People shouting it at non-Muslims in public places are either terrorists or intentionally inciting fears of an imminent terrorist attack.

Similar but related. It's not illegal to eat bacon in Sweden. But a man was just prosecuted in Sweden for eating bacon in front of Muslims, and when they moved on the bus changed seat so he was again in their view and continued to ostentatiously eat bacon. His motivation was not eating bacon - his motivation was causing upset.

Similarly a Muslims screaming ALLAHU AKBAR in a public crowd of mainly non-Muslims is not engaging in an honest act of faith - his motivation is causing upset.

And since the form of upset he is intentionally causing is strongly correlated to an imminent explosion if he gets physically f***ed-up - be it police or civilian - he has only himself to blame for intentionally inciting that.

Yes, they're intentionally causing a public disturbance. I'd be ok with giving them a citation for that. But shooting them outright?

That disturbance is not one of mere offence but of intentionally inciting a fear of an imminent attack.

It's the equivalent of "I have a gun and I'm going to shoot you" and if you get shot at that point that's your own f***ing fault.

No, it's not. That's a direct threat. This is just implied aggressiveness. It's basically the same as some Christian shouting that everyone is going to hell.

Given the context of Allahu Akbar being screamed before terrorist outrages, it's a direct threat too.

Only if and when people screaming "you're going to hell" is followed by multiple terrorist atrocities.

Citation that "most" Muslims who shout Allahu Akbar at crowds of non-Muslim have no terrorist intent?

Is that related to the Adhan?

The Adhan is traditionally issued from a minaret at a Mosque... not screamed by a loner Muslim at non-Muslims in non-Muslim settings.

Again, the Swedish bacon case - context is king.

If you're say, a party pf 4-5 muslims and you want to do your prayer in a group they usually have someone do the Athan. And yes, it is in a loud voice since the purpose of the Athan is for everyone to hear since it's a call to prayer. The minaret thing is only in places of established mosques. People, myself included, do the Athan while travelling too. It is certainly a common thing. I have done it on my university campus as well where a group of us prayed on the grass
