Now I bought some from Localbitcoins and it's sat in my wallet on that site.

What next? I honestly have no idea what I am doing. People talk about lost HDDs with Bitcoins on. How do I store them? Are they not just kept at Localbitcoins? I'm a complete novice at this.
I dont use localbitcoins and they have been around for a long time. But the whole point of Bitcoin is for it to be decentralized and you take responsibility for your own keys and not give power to bug entities. People in crypto dont want to hear anyone b**** and moan if a site like localbitcoin lost your funds or ran away with your money because it was essentially made to avoid that and people still store and trust their coins with someone else.

Uhhh, yeah. Bad idea. Don't buy bitcoin if you don't understand it. It's too risky. The rising price looks nice until you realize it has just as much potential to come crashing down. Better to buy a stock index or a mutual fund.

Although I assume you're young, so some high-risk buys and losses could be healthy in teaching you a few lessons.

I've only invested £50.00 to begin with so it's nothing at all to worry about. I just have no idea how to store it.

I downloaded GreenAddress and sent my money there but now what? I have to ensure this phone never gets lost or what?

When I first heard about it it was $137 per bitcoin. Now it's over 2,000 or some s***.

Kinda wish I invested tbh

yea pretty much. hell last time i looked at it i think it was like 2k. was tempted to get some but didn't think it would go up anymore and now it doubled. i still expect it to crash someday but now i dunno. it's lasted a long time now. longer than most though.

the volatility of it seems to make it a poor choice of actual currency

in theory it might work as a replacement for gold but the volume of its market is actually pretty low

which is why it's so volatile

Microsoft And Crypto Currency

https://btcmanager.com/microsofts-coco-to-speed-up-blockchains-for-enterprise/

MSFT is getting in. ETH to moon next year, decentralized protocols to be hindered by enterprise adoption of more centralized solutions. Abort DNT, Abort 0x ICO.
>>
Website won't load, could you explain more please? Sounds interesting.
>>
>>3037124
(1/2)
Microsoft, a company familiar with the cryptocurrency scene, announced on August 10 a new technology looking to speed up blockchain-based systems and make them more private at the same time on the enterprise level.
Blockchains have always been very good at maintaining data integrity due to every participant in a network having their own copy of the ledger to verify all transactions, but this made it difficult for large businesses with strict privacy requirements to adopt the technology.
The system is called Coco Framework, which stands for Confidential Consortium. Coco will be made ready and open source by 2018 Microsoft is claiming. Coco would make it to where companies could control who was able to see what was on the network, without slowing it down.
Microsoft is planning to offer Coco for free, in hopes that customers of the framework will use their cloud services as well.
>>
>>3037135
(2/2)
Coco connects various blockchain networks in order to resolve some of the problems hindering its adoption, such as the aforementioned speed and privacy concerns. In addressing these two problems, Microsoft hopes that Coco will enable more enterprises to consider using the blockchain-based software.
"We expect this to be the foundation for blockchain for enterprise," Mark Russinovich, chief technology officer of Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing division, said at a press briefing. "We think blockchain is going to potentially transform every industry."
According to Tom Racette, Vice President, Global Retail Business Development at Mojix, Coco is already being tested across a range of industries:
"Being able to run our existing supply chain Dapp code much faster within Coco framework is a great performance improvement that will reduce friction when we talk about enterprise Blockchain readiness with our retail customers. Adding data confidentiality support without sacrificing this improvement is what will enable us to lead the digital transformation we are envisioning with Smart Supply Chains."
Currently compatible with Ethereum, whose cryptocurrency has skyrocketed to position number two in terms of market capitalization and a trading price above $300, Microsoft says Coco can make the already speedy Ethereum 100 times faster.
Coco is being built in partnership with Intel’s hardware, to be compatible with all types of blockchains. While Microsoft hopes businesses from all over adopt Coco, planned adopters include Corda, the blockchain of R3, Intel/Hyperledger blockchain Sawtooth, as well as JPMorgan Chase’s Quorum. Further details about the Coco framework can be found in the technical whitepaper.

Thanks guys, but isn't DNT more than just business enterprise oriented? But maybe if that part gets cut off the whole project becomes worthless? Guess I need to read more so i can fully grasp the situation.
>>
>>3037185
Imo there's still room for decentralized exchanges and marketplaces and I think DNT and 0x are both solid and i hold both, but the BIG money is going to be in these enterprise soluyions that hook into existing blockchains like ETH, SO DNT and 0x will raise in value only as ETH does, but not as much as I thought previously. Only my opinion tho.
>>
>>3037274
I see, what other solutions are available that hook into existing blockchains? Block, Ark? Any other worth researching?

Bitcoin Fork

How does this not just make new coins from nothing? There were only ever supposed to be 21 million bitcoin now that amount has been doubled.

You could keep forking bitcoin nd keep doubling the supply and never run out. How does this keep value?
>>
Well with BTC as a settlement coin now, you can overtrade the fuck out of it, so technically they're making coins out of thin air on the original network. BCC still has the finite on-chain coins that will cap at 21mill. If one chain dies then those coins are worthless and new coins are not produced nor can they be sent to one another as no one is confirming transactions.
>>
>>3011621
And if neither of them die? So many people thought etc would die by now but its still alive. Whales could keep pumping it and idiots buy in everytime. It'll never die. Difference is there is an infinite amount of eth/etc not so with this.

Seems like a fundamental flaw if putting a cap was the intent

>he's a gold bug

Having some gold or selling gold for a living doesn't make you a """gold bug""". I have some cryptos, the mainstays like BTC, ETH, and get some decent money by buying and dumping the cheap ass alt coins, but I have hundreds of ounces of silver as well, and 2 ounces of gold. They're great for recessions and depressions, and for maintaining purchasing power.

I'm glad we have crypto, but cut the faggotry and stop thinking that having hard assets is for old people.

>>
>>3011276 (OP)
>based on faith
But that's wrong though. Digital currency has value because it allows you to do things you couldn't otherwise do with it. The more powerful digital currency is, the more its intrinsic worth increases. For a loose analogy, think of a money order. It isn't worth much unless you need it for some transaction that can't be done any other way. That gives it its value. What it can do above and beyond fiat currency. If I want to send money to someone in some other country and I want it to get there fast and I want it secure and I don't want to pay anything, what choices do I have? BTC comes to mind as obvious. So I exchange some fiat for it. It becomes valuable. There are many people like me who see value-add in cryptocurrency thus the existance of exchanges. This is just one example.
tl;dr this guy is a tool and doesn't have a clue.

>>
>>3011341

Fiat itself is not a """full fledged currency""".

>>3011569

It's valued in fiat. Fiat printed for governments by privately owned banks that tell those governments to pay it back and then some...even though governments can easily just issue their own currency debt free, no (((Central Bank))).

I wonder, can Bitcoin be a unit of account the way gold can? I.e can it rise to meet inflation and ultimately account for every dollar in existence?

>>
This stupid currency nihilism is retarded. Everything is worthless in some sense and has a value just because people give it to it.

Fiat currencies are not bad because "omg nothing has value" but because it's owners(me, you and everyone else) are not in control of it and governments are CONSTANTLY forging money devaluaing your wealth.

That's the difference between fiat crap and gold/bitcoin/whatever. Gold is just not practictal for too many reasons to start listing them. Blockchain is reliable enough to use for payments and as a currency. It has a lot of problems that still need to be solved but currently it is the only possible solution to countries and elite manipulating everyone's wealth.

I like Schiff because of my past lolbertarian self, but listen to the kind of shit Paul "The internet will make about as much impact as the fax machine" Krugman has said about BTC:

https://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/12/28/bitcoin-is-evil/

Dear Peter Schiff, when your opinions align well with Paul Krugman regarding emerging technologies, it's best to re-evaluate your opinions. Boomers, even ones that are otherwise well educated and smart, are fucking worthless when it comes to evaluating emerging tech, they are so used to things being a certain way (and working for them) that when something with massive revolutionary potential comes along they can have trouble recognizing it.
