- Swimming is the one flaw in this game I can't overlook.
You swim at about 3 miles an hour and despite claims neither the Zora Armor nor getting naked speeds things up.

Swimming isn't the only way to cross bodies of water.
It's pretty obvious that the developers wanted to encourage players to try out different ways to traverse the environment.

They should've given you an underwater pressurized Gundam suit or something. But with a Z on its back and chest, for Zelda.

If you're swimming enough that it's tedious, you're doing something wrong.

It would've been cool if the complete Zora Armor made you swim like Zora Link from MM.
Like I've been saying for years, you'll all come back to Nintendo in the end.

Sorry, you missed your chance.

lol wat than your doing it wrong. if you jump off a block at the right time he goes into a dive than you quickly glide and you get a height boost.

I don't have a problem with the swimming. Use the Zora armor and dash (it takes very little stamina to do so), or use ice blocks and paraglide between them. Once you get the hang of the distance, you can traverse water quite quickly.
I just wish there were paddle boats or canoes you could leisurely cruise around in without using stamina or flailing away with a leaf.

You swim at about 3 miles an hour and despite claims neither the Zora Armor nor getting naked speeds things up. I've noticed with the Zora armor (which needs 2 upgrades for the following I do believe), that your base swimming speed doesn't seem that much different, however, your dash ends up being so reduced in stamina usage that it uses less stamina to spam dash than to just swim. |
I just wish they at least made it to where you can dive for a few seconds, like in Ocarina of Time. Sucks when you lose things in the water that are just deep enough to be out of reach.
|
Swimming is seriously a missed opportunity. The long rivers actually have a bunch of stuff in them and would provide a fun alternative method of travel if swimming was done well, like it was in MM. Honestly I'm not sure why they bothered putting stuff in lakes and rivers the way it is.

I'd prefer to drown instead of swim. It's ridiculously slow, and it's safer and about as fast to cross water with Cryonis. At least Cryonis lets you dodge enemies.

bladexdsl posted... Using Cryonosis is extremely seamless in it's execution. Pop an ice block, make another one far enough to cover distance but close enough to paraglide to it. Because of this there is clearly no need for the old usage of Ice Arrows.

You never used the Zora armor, didn't you? With the set bonus you're amazingly fast and you can sprint super easily for nearly zero costs.
|
Many lakes have a raft, don't they? Traveling with the raft is pretty fast if you have a korok leaf.
I avoid swimming as much as I can, it's so darn slow without the Zora Armor and even with it--darn slow :D

It's slightly ridiculous that you can swim up a waterfall at 10x the speed you can swim flat. The Zora sets bonus should be some sort of hold button to dash swimming rather than awkwardly doing lots of little dashes.
|
I personally like it. Gives me a reason to look for ways to cross a river without just diving in. Makes you examine the landscape more and think. Also makes swimming buffs actually feel useful, instead of redundant like most games.

TBH I don't have a problem with the Zora armor but I am curious why they didn't just do what they did 17 years ago and just make Link able to swim fast af like in Majora's Mask. Would make swimming across the giant lakes and rivers much more enjoyable.

Like maybe in the Zora armor, your dash goes like 5 times farther than the normal one. |

Does anyone regularly rely on hasty elixirs to speed up traversal? The speed boost from a high level elixir is very nice, but procuring a steady stream of them could be a problem.

For the entire "early game hell" portion of this game as soon as I saw a body of water I would instantly say "nope!" as swimming is very slow and stamina just evaporates too quickly. It wasn't until I got the Zora equipment and activated a good deal of shrines that I started to be OK with swimming.
I still prefer to use Crynosis if I have to cross a river or something, much faster than the maximum swimming speed.

The Zora armor most definitely speeds you up.
With that said, it's not near enough. The Zora armor's max speed should be Link's default speed. The complete set should allow you to swim the same way it allows you to swim up stream.

Mix 4 Fleet-Lotus Seeds/Rushrooms with a shard of a dragon's horn to get a high level speed boost that lasts 30 minutes. It takes less than 2 minutes to get Farosh's horn if you have the Zora Armor and the shrine near Riola Spring activated. |

It's not a crime by any means to dislike this game, but seeing as topics about how supposedly bad the game is generally get around a mere 3 people agreeing with everyone else disagreeing, you're clearly not in like-minded company, and I've seen detractors complain about people arguing in the game's favor poorly, so clearly you all don't think you're going to get an interesting discussion here. So... why are you here, if not to discuss the game with civil and intelligent company?
