- Can switch be a primary system?
Right now there aren't enough games for the Switch to be my primary console and there are several genres completely missing. The switch's graphics aren't great, but are good enough that if it had the right Library it could become my primary. That said it would have to be a truly incredible one to surpass PC and PS4 right now.

I don't see it happening. Nintendo's first party stuff is mostly fantastic and make up many of my favorite games each generation... but with next to no third party support, hard to consider it as a primary. There's plenty of third party support. Maybe it doesn't have the specific third party games that you want, but there's way more than just Nintendo stuff on this thing. Personally, I have 19 games and only 4 of them were made by Nintendo. Plenty of non-Nintendo games I'm looking forward to, too. |
The switch has become my primary system. Between work and adult life (not saying you guys/gals arnt adults) I don't seem to have time to just sit down at home and play games very much. The switch has helped a lot because I can pack it around and get console quality games on the go when I find a few minuses here and there.

I'm going to say yes. Easily.
If we get Bayonetta 1/2 and a resident evil title, mixed with massive indie support and of course Nintendo IPs.....the Switch really isn't far off from being an ideal system. Currently my GBA is my primary system. I've still got 40 games left to play and I constantly find myself going back and replaying Mario&Luigi, Metroid Zero/4 Boktai 1-3, Tony Hawk (love GBA TH) and Max Payne. . |
For me Nintendo stopped being a primary system after SNES.

1st. It need more support from 3rd party. Currently, not much as far as I see.
2nd, it needs to beef up their power and graphic cards to be on par with original ps4 and Xbox one. 3rd. It needs to co-join with 3rd party to make games like rabbid and Mario on end of August or like Super Mario rpg. 4th. It needs to make more consoles/handheld/classic mini, and other acc (amiibo) be available so scalper won't prey on stupid fools who buy from them.

Generally in 2017, thanks to Apple and their "I'm a Mac/I'm a PC" ad campaign, PC is synonymous with Windows. Xbox games aren't on every PC in the broad sense of the term. They are on the PC platform, Windows 10. So PC, Windows 10 in particular, does have first party games. Quite a few of them. Sony and Nintendo aren't the only first parties.

Depends on whether or not you're also port begging for 3rd party AAA games that have come out on PC, XB1, and PS4, but not the Switch.
If all you care about is Nintendo exclusives, Nintendo ports, and indies, Switch can be a good primary. If you're wanting to play FFXV, Uncharted 4, etc, then you're going to need to get a PS4. Whether or not you then consider PS4 to be primary or the Switch will be up to you based on the games you buy for each platform. |
This will get lost in the cesspool of haters but
With no console at no point in time has anyone been able to say "This is the only console I'll be playing this generation" 4 months into its lifespan.

Any system can be someone's "primary" console depending on what games they primarily play.
I primarily play Nintendo games, so my Wii U was my primary system. My 360 is a side system used for Batman, GTA, and Skyrim and nothing else.

This will get lost in the cesspool of haters but Maybe in the days of Atari 2600 and NES. Back then, without internet, I knew nothing of what other computers there were. By the SNES, however, I was more familiar with Sega, ColecoVision, etc. I'd have liked to own Sega consoles at the same time as I had SNES, but that never happened as my parents were poor and I was lucky to even get the SNES when it came out. But I suppose that's different, as I wasn't aware of what other similar products were out at that time. |

Well, I’ve recently made the decision not to buy the Xbox One X. One reason for that is because I have less money than I thought I would. The other is that I haven’t used my Xbox One too much recently for anything other than Rocket League and Overwatch. Obviously Rocket League is coming to the Switch soon, so soon it’%u2019ll just be my Overwatch machine.I hope to have provided some rational commentary and/or comedic relief with this post.No games, subpar graphics and performance. It's a side secondary at most.FFX is the best game of all time. The only good Nintendo franchises are Pokemon and Fire Emblem. Not sure why he got riled up about something like this. It's a question of "can it be a primary system?", not "is it your primary system?"TFW a troll blindly responds that drones are the ones with common sense, then lashes back with an incoherent post shortly after.

I don't feel all that limited. There just aren't all that many games on PS4 or Xbox1 that interest me or my kids, who are the primary video game players in my house. They already have ten games on the Switch they play as much as I used to play my NES and SNES when I was around their age, with 3 more games they are really looking for to over next few months (Splatoon, Mario/Rabids, Mario Odyssey).
My son does love playing Smash Bros on the 3DS, but everything else they play is on the Switch.Big E is my guy.

Yeah, that is pretty much exactly where I am. Last Sony system I bought was Playstation 2 and my Xbox360 was pretty much used only for Mass Effect and various sports games for me, and Lego games for the kids. If there was suddenly a rush of games on the PS4 or XBONE that interest me, I would never say "NO! I will never buy those systems." But experience hasn't shown that to be the case, so far.Big E is my guy.
http://www.criticalblast.com/ - For Fans. By FansMy PS4 is basically just for Fallout 4 and Persona 5, although I'll be doing a new playthrough of Final Fantasy XV in December when all the side chapters are out... And since I'm addicted to Fallout 4 despite having a lot of faults with it I'll likely be playing my PS4 quite a bit.

Yeah, I only own Nintendo systems because I love Nintendo games. I have a gaming PC for everything else, I don't even see the point in owning a PS4 or Xbox One this gen with all the good games coming to PC. While I own a PS4, I hardly ever play games on it (it's basically just a stream machine), so it'll be the last Sony system I ever buy.MASKOAAA posted...PC gamer here.....if Nintendo gamers were on PC I wouldn't own a Switch and if PC games were on Switch...well I'd still play them on PC.

Ya, I tend to agree with this point of view though I do play some PC games. That being said, the only people that could handle Switch as their "primary" console would be the Nintendrones. I think he's referencing the site of a computer at all. You still have to turn it on and navigate to wherever the game file is. But it's still a bad excuse, since almost any modern console these days require just about as much effort to run a game, so it can't be a time issue either.
Edit: To add to that, I still work with computers all day myself. When I get home, I don't really want to surf the web, or do any kind of updates, or anything to do with MS Word, Excel, etc., but playing a game on my computer doesn't bother me or make me feel I'm just as tethered to my computer now as I was while working... because I'm doing something fun that relaxes me.Funcoland posted...DaeboVidra posted...

I'm not trying to convince you, or anyone, you silly person. :-P
I personally dislike being tied to a television, which is why I primarily game on my Switch and 3DS; obviously, other people have other preferences.
As far as hooking up a PC to the television (duh) it's still a PC, but now with a giant monitor.

Sure, there's been a serious initial drought of games, but it's the same with all consoles. By the end of the year, there will already be too many games that I want to buy but won't have the time to play.
Zelda BotW, MK8DX, Yooka-Laylee, Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, Fifa 18, NBA2K18 Rayman Legends, Sonic Forces, Skyrim, a whole bunch of downloadable games (Metal Slug 1 & 3, Shovel Knight, Snipperclips, Fast RMX, Sonic Mania), probably VC by the end of year,...
That's more than enough for a lot of people. The thing I notice on Gamefaqs, is that 90% of you seem to forget that you're only a fraction of the audience of videogames. Perhaps you're students or you don't have many other hobbies (not a judgment, nothing wrong with that, I was the same several years ago), but most people really don't have the time to play a new game every single month. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer who needs to have the latest CoD, AC or whatever.
metroidman18 posted...Those who say yes are the equivalent of people who eat the same three meals every day. Its doable but you're only limiting yourself
I mean, reactions like this are absurd to me. Is it so hard to understand that not everyone needs to play a different game every week? Many people have other hobbies outside of gaming, have other responsibilities. If you don't, then I understand you like having more than 1 console. But, once again, not everyone is a hardcore gamer. I love gaming, when I was at University, I had plenty of time to do it. But now, I work 8 hours a day from Monday till Friday, I have a relationship to maintain, a dog to walk, a house and a yard to take care of, mini-football twice a week, squashing,... Is it so hard to understand that people with a schedule like this can perfectly use the Switch as a primary console? The suggestion that I'd be "limiting myself" is ludicrous.- Boards
