- How Online Activists Helped Get a Nintendo Staffer Fired.

On March 30th 2016, marketing spokesperson Alison Rapp announced that she had been terminated by Nintendo of America. The firing came after months of a consumer campaign against Rapp by a group critical of Rapp's online behavior.
Nintendo has denied that Rapp’s termination was related to the campaign, instead saying that she violated company policy by moonlighting, which Rapp has admitted to. But some have also accused the company of using Rapp's moonlighting as a pretext to rid itself of an outspoken bigot who stoked the ire of video game consumers, and who was "no longer a good, safe representative of Nintendo.” The sequence of events was triggered by censorship of the American releases of Japanese Wii U and 3DS titles. Rapp had no role in the changes made to the games, but her position as a marketing spokesperson for the localization team made her visible, and her frequent abusive tweets made her a target for angry consumers. Rapp’s critics tore into her using screen shots of her own tweets, as well as digging up her old college papers. An array of evidence surfaced about Rapp wanting to legalize child porn possession. Nintendo, in its statement about Rapp's termination claim that Rapp's dismissal of employment was unrelated to the campaign against her. But now that she is fired, it's a little excessive. But at the same time, I get why. Because journalists and activists are acting like her firing was a great injustice, so they are taking those journalists stupidity and progressive idiocy out on her. It curious to note, many of the articles that talk about this seem more interested in providing Allison Rapp cover and defence by either failing to mention the reasons she may have been fired and instead just jump to "Gamergate got her fired because video game boobies" or some such thing. They attribute it to a smear campaign from a hate group, when the "smear" didn't seem to extend beyond pointing at her own public papers and tweets and saying "isn't that kind of a f***ed up thing to say?"
I don't think Rapp should've necessarily been fired for her thoughts on child porn possession, as awful as they are, but it is fair to note that they may have made her a small liability for Nintendo when the Jamie Walton got involved. Perhaps more curious, the only articles that mentioned her termination may have been due to being a prostitute, instead of "because Gamergate" have gotten the authors of those articles harassment from Rapp's defenders, while those authors are labelled harassers for mentioning it at all. --- http://steamcommunity.com/id/Esrac |

Have you been living under a rock for the last 8 years or so? All kinds of people (some would call them SJW's) have been going after celebrities, private businesses, college professors and adminstrators, Youtube personalities and others in different fields after deeming their words or actions as offensive. They've been getting people fired, protested, boycotted and harassed. But now it's not cool and going too far when the anti-SJW crowd does it to the SJW crowd? Clearly a lot of people on both sides of the fence feel strongly about their various issues. Hell, here you are as well, whining with your own opinions. |
