Maybe we can score some good video game deals!

I was just by the one close to home when my wife and I were shopping last week, and they had sign holders at the nearby intersection saying they were closing the store and all merchandise had to go.

Will there even be brick and mortar stores in 10 years? When it comes to specialty stores I imagine more and more will be disappearing. Price is relevant to 90% of Americans to at least some degree. If I can buy X game new on ebay for $20 rather than used at a local store for $15 I will, just because it's new. However I do try to support a local chain of stores here in the midwest that sells video game, comics, music, movies, toys, card games, sports cards, and some books too. Places like Walmart and large grocery chains are offering to shop for you, and either deliver or you can pick up your groceries. So even brick and mortar stores are giving people one less reason to leave their home.

Toys R Us here shut down a long time ago and became a giant Hastings. Now that's out of business and I have no idea what that building is now.

My friend is an hr manager for toys r us and has told me the ceo confirmed they Are liquidating the company.

Like either you can be the type of people who accept they have to face struggles grit down and do something about it or you can be gen x and complain about how hard the generation before them made the world for them and how much the generations after them suck. I like to ask myself what the great or silent generation would think of them for how much they complain and I can't imagine their opinion of gen x would be great.

Seriously walk into a Gamestop
you will be bombarded with merchandise and funko pops, and all the games are in the back of the store like they shouldn't exist |
Last three times I took my 11 year old son for a free Pokemon code, he ended up with an overpriced stuffed Pokemon or some other toy. They're right there by the register to get the code. Them fuckers know what they're doing.

Gamestop may be adapting but I don't think its helping them. There stock price has been trending down for about 5 years. I still think its a good idea to adapt since psychical video game sales are probably declining, but becoming the Funko Pop store doens't seem to be helping them at the moment.

They'll probably sell the assets to a liquidation company, which usually jacks up prices and puts on "sales." I remember walking into a Sports Authority when they were going under and the prices were still unbelievable.
That's my guess anyway.

I'm really upset over this. I legit stop in at Toys R Us like once a month, sometimes more than that, just for fun. Sometimes I pick up a Transformer or an Amiibo. Sometimes I don't get anything. But regardless they always were a source of comfort. I especially love stopping by on my way home from work to help distract me from the crushing futility of reality.
Hell, my girlfriend and I went to Toys R Us randomly on Valentine's Day cuz we couldn't think of anything fun to do, just to go buy random stuff like plushies.AKA Level 36 ForestWanderer / ObjectiveLogicTo be honest, most retail stores should close down, they’re pointless these days, Especially going forward. Why waste time and gas going to a store to overpay for something, then having to wait on line and deal with rude employees and customers. When instead you can just click a few buttons on your phone and have the exact same item shipped straight to your door step within 2hrs to 2 days for a cheaper price compared to stores.

Not sure if trolling but
There's something much more satisfying about walking into a store, browsing a selection of products in-person that you can see up close, touch, smell, etc... which you just can't experience via Amazon. Same reason why so many people miss Blockbuster. Sure, from an availability and content standpoint, Netflix and Hulu are superior to the biggest Blockbuster ever was in its prime. But people like tangible, physical items too, which is something you miss out on, online.
Also FWIW toys tend to not actually be much cheaper online most of the time. The only ways you end up paying less is by getting lucky and getting it on sale (something you can do with brick-and-mortar) or by getting it from second-hand sellers (which isn't always an attractive option to some people, ESPECIALLY for toys).AKA Level 36 ForestWanderer / ObjectiveLogickingdrake2 posted...gamer167 posted...

It definitely depends on where you live. For me, amazon has always been pretty mediocre living in south carolina. I ordered a pair a hyperx cloud alphas and some brainwavz velour earpads on march the 5th, at about 1:45ish p.m........why the hell has this shit yet to ship out? Seriously, I am still waiting on this crap to even ship, says I am supposed to get it thursday on the 15th.....yeah. Getting prime isn't much better, at least going off of the times when I use to free 30 day trials for it. They used to do guaranteed next day delivery, but eventually changed that to two day delivery, and the few times I used the trial, I was still getting things at least a day or two late. Random video game example, but the poor bastards who decided to pre-order the tales of berseria collector's edition off amazon didn't even get their stuff till' about two weeks later....couldn't even supply them on time.
Bah. If I can find these hyperx cloud alphas in person, I would have done it in a heart-beat. (Unfortunately for me, the three gamestops and the best buy in my town were sold out, and target or wal-mart did not have this particular model in their stores).GTag:XlX Zoro XlX PSN:lMadDogg NNID:xMadDoggx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiqjqAROr_E My most pro overwatch POTG ever. Words cannot describe the greatnessYeah imagine seriously advocating all stores should close when I can't even get a game on its release date even with Prime. Like what the fuck.
Not to mention that even though Amazon is winning, the competition with B&M stores is keeping Amazon honest in some areas.Bio1590 posted...Not to mention that even though Amazon is winning, the competition with B&M stores is keeping Amazon honest in some areas.
Amazon has an incredibly tiny profit margin in general. I don't think enough people realize this. Amazon is engaged in a brutally competitive space where virtually all efficiencies and advantages gained are passed in the form of cost savings to the consumer to keep Amazon ahead of its competitorsI may not go down in history, but I will go down on your sister.- Boards
