JoCrazy 4 days ago#1
CNN reported that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who criticized the Saudi regime, has been missing for over a week and Turkish officials believe he was killed at the consulate. The US has acquired conversations of Saudi officials talking about luring him into the consulate. It’s currently unknown if Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post, is alive or dead.

Pro Wrestling Torch editor Wade Keller noted that this could be bad for WWE’s deal with Saudi Arabia. One of the congressman who spoke out against a relationship with the Saudis if the rumors are true is Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, WWE’s home state.

WWE held Greatest Royal Rumble in the country and is set to bring the Crown Jewel event there in November.

@thewadekeller
Senator Chris Murphy of CT (home of WWE HQs) says if the Turkish allegation of murder is true, “it should represent a fundamental break in our relationship with Saudi Arabia.” This could end up being troublesome for WWE's event deal with Saudi Arabia

@ChrisMurphyCT
US Senate candidate, CT
If this is true - that the Saudis lured a U.S. resident into their consulate and murdered him - it should represent a fundamental break in our relationship with Saudi Arabia.

WWE will double down on its support of Saudi Arabia. Anything for money.
Less is more.

I think it's less about WWE and their morally bankrupt fans and more about the American government putting pressure on them to stop being used as a propaganda tool for a nation we're at odds with while Linda McMahon is working for the Trump administration. They love their Saudi blood money but I'm not sure they'd torpedo Linda's political career for it.

Keep in mind, U.S Goverment deal and public relations with Saudi Arabia goes back far longer before Trump was in office

Hence the conspiracy theory on Oil and Bush invading in Iraq in the 90s and G.W Bush and Cheney (when he worked at a old company before being V.P) in the 2000s

Just saying, they do have a agreement that goes back long before Trump

That virtue signalling piece of shit propaganda video they showed about woman driving cars was appalling, especially when they had the woman walking in slow motion into the car.

What in the holy hell was that nonsense?! What's next? Are they gonna have a video with a man walking in slow motion from a public square into a secluded room, give a thumbs up and smile only to be beheaded and say they ain't doing public executions anymore and act like they're actually doing good in the world.

Million dollar man said everybody's got a price but at this point it's not even about money anymore, it's quite literally costing them their public image, their dignity, and their long term fan base (not that their current product is helping).

I've always given the WWE flack about their constant attempts to be an international company yet continue to blindly support the US military, but now they're siding with a state that directly contributes to the deaths of their own military personnel on a daily basis.

Fuck the Sauds and to hell with who ever thought this would be a good idea.

WWE already turned a blind eye to Jimmy Snuka he was making WWE a bit of money, not as much as say Hulk Hogan but he was popular in his own right and that whole thing happened. I still find him guilty but father time served him. :/

Wow, Saudi Arabia really gave freedom of speech a real bodyslam

Now WWE has to try to escape one hell of a headlock of bad publicity if these rumors are true

Hopefully the Saudi government will be able to piledrive these accusations so them & Vince can continue living the Million Dollar Dream. That would be Too Sweet for them

Who knows, maybe the journalists dissappearance was merely an Accident 02?

Which they're still actively doing. Wasn't too long ago KSA bomb a bus that was full of Yemeni children.

Will be surprised if Vince actually turns down that precious Saudi blood money, however. Keep in mind the US government has been in bed with the Saud regime since at least the 70s.

Personally even if they have have the PPV I'm not watching. WWE should keep in mind that with questions of patriotism at a high that people may see them in a different light and boycott them. They were already getting heat before this, but they may want to reevaluate what they are in for with this deal.

With Linda part of the Trump admin and Kane, who's main eventing the show, as the Mayor of Knoxville, TN, they should back out.

    Given what the Saudi government gets up to in the full light of day with the support of several ostensibly democratic allies, I don't find it particularly difficult to believe that they'd ambush and assassinate a journalist.

    As for WWE, it would in no way surprise me if they would continue with the promotion for Crown Jewel as if nothing happened. They're a for-profit corporate organization, it's to be expected. As has been said, the only thing that'll stop them or even give them pause is if advertisers start bitching. We'll see if that's the case.

    What turns my stomach, then, is WWE's very LOUD pretense of being this grand, socially progressive, altruistic, philanthropic paragon of human virtue when it's obvious that it's a very cynical marketing tool. Be clear on this, if the Saudis paid the McMahons enough money, not only would they continue doing business with them whether they knew full well of what's been done or not, they'd probably agree to hide the body in Stamford.
    Every time WWE heads to the Saudi desert, some major controversy takes place.

    If every US company had to suspend business activities with governments that did this sort of thing, we'd have no trade with places like China & Russia. Hell, China basically blackmailed the President of Interpol into quitting. And yet no one is telling apple to stop making iphones there. So why should the WWE care?

    WWE doesn't have a conscience. It's a business, and it's about money. PR matters, but only until they're being shoved blood diamonds hand over fist into their pockets by wealthy princes in the Middle East, and then "public relations" is an alien concept that Vince, Steph, Dunn, and Hunter can't comprehend.
    "And you can't tell me what my spirit tells me isn't true,

    To be fair, if your entire government AND your wife’s employer happens to be the head of that government are saying going through with it is bad timing, that sounds like reason to reflect. That could very well have PR ramifications that aren’t to anyone’s benefit.
