PHILADELPHIA – Despite Hillary Clinton's best efforts, the first day of the Democratic National Convention was full of divisive boos, mixed emotions, and tensions with Bernie Sanders' delegates. But that changed for a brief moment, when an 11-year-old girl stepped onto the stage at the Wells Fargo Center with her mom to tell her powerful story.

Karla Ortiz was originally introduced to voters in a February campaign ad, "Brave," in which she told the candidate that she was afraid that her parents, undocumented immigrants, were going to be deported. "I'm going to do everything I can so you don't have to be scared," Clinton said in the ad, tearing up. "I'll do all the worrying, is that a deal?" The two then share a big hug.
On Monday night, Karla took the podium with her mother, Francesca. "I don't feel brave every day," she said. "On most days I'm scared… that at any moment my mom and my dad will be forced to leave. […] I want my parents to see me do science experiments and find my rare rocks in the desert. I want to grow up to be a lawyer so I can help other families."

"Soy Americana. I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada," Karla said to loud cheers. "[Hillary Clinton] wants me to have the worries of an 11-year-old, not the weight of the world on my shoulders."
The speech got a standing ovation in the arena, and a burst of support on social media. Looks like someone should start preparing her own campaign in a few decades.

idgi. Why is everyone clapping? The mom's an undocumented immigrant and the child is reading from a teleprompter, and then at the end they do half the speech in Spanish for the American presidential candidate.

And people are clapping?
What are we clapping for? What are we supporting? Are we saying elect Hillary because if she does she'll open the borders?

I'm not trying to throw an anti-immigration stance on this because I'm not anti-immigrant, but this just feels like a flagrant something and I'm not sure why people are clapping.

And what about the important questions?
Her mom's undocumented - does she have a job? Is she working at all? Who's paying her rent?
Are they on government assistance?
If Hillary is elected president will they get more government assistance?

You can't just say "Don't think about anything hard and elect me president so I can do it for you."

WHY ARE PEOPLE CLAPPING
