- How did anybody figure out how to beat Star Ocean 2?
Level 93, still losing to story bosses badly..
Ask SO2 board, I need the bunny shoes. How do I get the Bunny shoes? I need to pickpocket them from the rabbit in Fun City. How do I pickpocket? I need to have a particular talent, two particular skills and a particular item. How do I get talents? I swear... |
There's something wrong with the people who made this game.
There should be no possible way, no matter how badly you messed up character building, for a story boss to wipe a party leveled in the upper 90's. This game is terrible and I hate it. |

There's something wrong with the people who made this game. I think I beat the game in the mid 90s, but that was strictly for the final boss (limiter version) on the normal difficulty. Are you somehow on the Galaxy or Universe difficulty? You get Talents iirc randomly upon using a skill that might use said talent. So if you pickpocket enough, you might gain Dexterity, etc. Also, the level cap is 255

unlike many JRPGs, Star Ocean level cap is not 100.
that being said, the game is not that hard. challenging, sure. but you should be able to figure things out, and should definitely not need any of the hidden pickpockets.
Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!

Maybe it's not tht hard if you know what you're doing.
But like I said if you're 50 levels overleveled, knowing what you're doing shouldn't matter. |
I just found my original PS1 copy in near mint condition, I really need to find a PS1 and a memory card so I can play my favorite game again

I'm not going to lie. SO2 has a lot of stuff that's hidden until you unlock it. so, first time without a guide, you are kinda fumbling around in the dark for a while. but I can only remember 3 fights being super hard compared to the rest of the stuff being encountered at the time (though, they do come in rapid succession)

Very last boss, I think.
Earthquake is one-hit wiping me (actually, it leaves two characters in the 1000's of HP for him to follow up with a tap to each for the win), the stupid purple wave move is instakilling anyone that doesn't block it (why do so many attacks in this game deal 700 hits at once?), and the explosion move wiped my party but in fairness two characters were low HP so maybe they would have survived it. Are you somehow on the Galaxy or Universe difficulty? No idea. I've been on the ragequit cycle so long that I don't remember choosing a difficulty setting. |
Huh, I just looked it up and apprently there's no solution for Earthqauke. Leveling won't affect the damage you take from it, nor will any equipment whatsoever.
So... huh. |
So you're fighting the final boss with his limiter off, which is an optional thing to make him the hardest boss in the game, and you're confused by that?
At least, I assume you're fighting him with his limiter off, because you don't need a hugely complicated set up to beat the final boss normally. Also, you played the entire game without even learning about talents?
WHO MODS THE MODERATORS?
|
No, I don't think so. I'm in Fienal.
|
Yeah you must be fighting him with the limiter off. I wasn't that high and beat the game.
|
How do I know if the limiter is off?
|
Ah hell
Apparently you can't make bloody armor after buying magical rasp. Besides I don't want to go through thst dumb switch maze agin anyway. |

Maybe it's not tht hard if you know what you're doing. Level 90 or so isn't really high in Star Ocean. Tbh, if you went through the whole game w/o learning any talents you probably missed a lot of other stuff too. SO is a game where you need to pay attention to details. You'll do better next playthrough. What party are you using?

The chances of him accidentally doing the things that would turn the limiter off are pretty low, I doubt that Indalecio has his limiter off.
That being said, I believe that certain enemies in the field of power (I believe that's the one on the snowy mountain) drop bloody armor. Overall, level 90 to 95 is good enough to beat the final boss, but if you are still having trouble 1. Try to get bunny shoes. You already know about the pickpocket-able ones from the bunny. Be aware that people with dexterity are better pickpocketers, however not everyone can learn that talent. Look at your team and see if any of them already have the Dexterity talent and if so, level up their ability. You can also win them in the bunny races at Fun City. Just be aware that this can take some time as it's luck based. Just bet on the bunny shoes every time you see them. 2. You could look up how to get to the secret dungeon. You can level up a bit there and on the first floor, there is a pair of bunny shoes in a chest (or maybe the boss on that floor drops them, either way there is for sure a pair in that floor) 3. Like I said, I'm pretty sure bloody armor is dropped by certain enemies in the field of power Who are you using in your team BTW? 3 attackers and one healer is usually the best way to go. |
Btw I saw your post in the SO2 board. You mentioned having to move Claude to the 3rd spot because when you went to the coliseum it screwed things up.
That happens. An easy fix for that is to go to the menu, go to the battle formations. You can choose the battle leader on this screen as well as battle formations. Choosing the leader is the person that you start battle with. |
Party is Claude, Leon, Chisato, Rena.
I have Precis too but I would.honestly rather just not play the game anymore than grind her up from level 30-something listening to that terrible terrible voice. You'll do better next playthrough. Oh man. I don't see myself ever doing another playthrough. This one was painful enough. Is painful enough, I should say. I think there's still a good 15-20 hours of grinding or item collecting left. Btw I saw your post in the SO2 board. You mentioned having to move Claude to the 3rd spot because when you went to the coliseum it screwed things up. Ok, will try. Thanks. |
the one remember more is the final battle
and it wasnt that hard are you keeping an eye on all the characters and making use of the blocking commands you dont want them to use or you just control one and hope the rest know what to do on their own ?

What a great game So I've heard. |

Hey, it's Spicule! Oh ho ho, it's HOT!!! Those guys were ridiculous af too. I liverally leveled more than 100 levels (total between four characters) before I managed to beat them. |
This is absurd.
I guess the goal is to just stop him from doing earthquake in the first place but he moves around too much for you to really do anything about it. |

This is absurd. It's possible to lock him down. You need to work on the skill Guts though. It's what keeps you going when that happens.

I don't recall what level I was at that point. I think I was 150s/160s when I got as far as I ever got in the post game dungeon. Did lots of grinding and was making good progress, then I was dropped down into a room with little harmless looking worm things and my party was dead in seconds. Worms weren't even using any special moves. That was depressing and I never played the game again.Place-holder sig because new phone and old sigs not saved :/- Boards
