On a recent motorcycle trip to the States I met many Yanks who were seemed to be ashamed of their President. They were more than a little taken aback when I told them that the vast majority of the citizens of the Planet thought Barack was a great world leader and that the Americans were lucky to have him. In my opinion the aversion to the President is entirely racist. They won't admit to it but I think that's the root cause of their dislike for a fine man. As individuals they are wonderful people. As a nation they are crazier than shithouse rats.

It is not a requrement for a president to return a salute unless in uniform. It was Ronald Regan who first started this tradition of saluting while in civilian clothes. At least in Canada salutes are usually acknowledged by our Prime Ministers by a nod but not by a salute. Our military salute only when in uniform and wearing a wedge, beret , helmet or some other headgear. The American military also salute bare headed when in uniform.
I find it amusing and even silly that some people got their knickers all in a twist because Obama didn't return the salute.

The military is not going to protect you from terrorist attacks! All it is used for is to go secure resources from other countries. By doing this the arms race continues also, ensuring many already rich men, stay rich! Now im not saying you get rid of it entirley but a good deal of downsizing would be a good idea!
