Embarrassing as this was, I think this highlights the frustration some Canadians feel because of the inability to secure housing and a Doctor, while people from other Countries just walk in and have everything given to them on a platter. Just my opinion. Despite what the Minister for Immigration, this frustration and bitterness DOES exist.

@Rev. Slab Ryder Hmmm. Given to them on a platter? You try living on 30k for a year with a family of three or four. No job, new language, a new culture to learn/understand. They live is a small apartment or repurposed military housing. This is incredibly hard for them. Yes, they get health care. So do you.

It is true that many Canadian services are inadequate, but pepper spraying refugees does not do anything to improve that. Most refugees begin paying taxes in a very short time and contribute to solving our social services problems. And if there is to be political statements made it should be against the problem, not against people who are in need of some help just as urgently as many Canadians need help.

@Whistling1 really? Where are you getting your facts? They get houses given to them and 30k try more like 50k easily the more kids they have the more they get. Plus all the benefits not just health care. Compared to someone on disability or welfare they are barely living

@TheGovernor He and his family were just the victims of a terrorist attack and you call it complaining. Do you know the details to make such a statement. Did this man have children, were they knocked out? I'm sure you would complain if this happened to your loved ones.

We must NOT jump to conclusion that this is someone attacking on refugees because he/she doesn't like them. It could be a Muslim doing this to gain sympathy and to boost support for refugees since polls reported 60% of Canadians do not support the huge resettlement of Muslim economic migrants to Canada.

@JW Smart ... Conspiracy theories aside, the simplest explanation is usually the right one. Based on reading the posts here, the sympathy theory is much less likely than the idea that someone was a bitter, angry and frustrated person based on their own situation and so took their aggression and frustration out on the refugees. Like a schoolyard bully who has some sort of problem and so picks on the little kids to make himself feel better. I recall standing up to one of those schoolyard bullies when I was in grade 7 - he was going to beat on one of my friends - it felt great to be on the right side!« less

- 62% of Canadians did NOT vote Liberal.
It time for Trudeau and his government to wake up to the reality and address the sentiment that those have that did not vote in the 38% for him.
Its not necessarily WHAT is being done, its HOW and WHEN its being done and Trudeau needs to become more aware opposed to pushing his own agenda. The biggest mistake was not starting the "helping" people with Canadians first and then immigrants perhaps a year down the road. @62% of Canadians did NOT vote Liberal.
We've been helping Canadians in need for generations. It's one of the biggest complaints of right wing voters. You know, the "Down With Socialists, Ban Welfare" crowd.
Now we aren't being socialist enough to please you? Scroll through some of the pictures and tell me where Canadians are finding life this tough.

@atoms You're joking, right? Hint - assault is not a "differing opinion". Nor is it "getting his message across".
What's next: spray painting hate slogans on a mosque (or a synagogue or a community center for some group you don't like): is that also "getting a message across"?

Why do people continue to tout Canada as this utopian, welcoming, inclusive love everybody country? We are not. It's probably half and half. Half the population lives in a Justin Trudeau paradise where they view the world through rose coloured glasses and all they see is rainbows and unicorns and sunny ways. The rest of the country are generally realists who recognize that yes, we need immigration in this country but the manner in which it is being done is shameful. Most of these people will... » more

agreed. I'm no fan of any of these corrupt and decadent parties. But how in anyone's right mind is bringing in 10,000 elderly immigrants a year a good idea with health care failing and CPP about to take the baby boomer blow. Justins party is leading a blind ship and the frustration is pouring out with acts like this.

@All Hell for a Basement Agreed. Liberal govt. will ruin the country with their flower child policies. People who can hardly feed their own children, have no dental or Doctor care are not going to be happy with the influx of people who are put ahead of them and who are already complaining about the country. Lots of born Canadians need help and can't get it.

Ever been around pepper spray?
When your eyes nose and mouth are burning and there's nothing you can do to stop it the word "only" simply does not apply. People have actually died from the shock of being sprayed with this stuff.
Moreover this was a crime... and most likely a hate crime as well. It should be prosecuted no matter who the victims were.

Perhaps they were.
What is certain though is their ignorance.
They have social programs in place for their benefit - free medical care, food banks, government assisted vocational training and no shortage of jobs which they obviously feel are beneath their dignity, jobs which these refugees will be more than happy to have.

@Mikeymike What is the relevance of your comment to this criminal act?
And no, Canadians don't "want our government to address their needs such as healthcare". We want a sensible use of our tax dollars. In the case of healthcare, it means a properly run universal health care system.
That's something that every western country (except the US) has.

Its not a dream; its a nightmare.
And its not a nightmare because it is inclusive, tolerant, generous and welcoming (these are all wonderful things).
Its a nightmare because Justin's dad never entrenched - as a cornerstone - the notion of honouring, respecting and acknowledging our host culture.
Doing both is not incompatible. It is essential.

@Call a Spade a Spade ?? ram the multi-culture dream...?? What ramming? Canada has been multi-cultural for decades, and we are richer for it. If you want mono-culture, move elsewhere, but note that the number of mono-culture countries and communities is shrinking rapidly; whoa, first you would have to find such a culture that would accept you, else they wouldn't be mono-culture any more. @Vicarious What feelings are you referring to? Canadians elected a new government to return to the Canada we wanted. It was clear in the campaign that Canadians were sickened by the politics of division and racism the has Belen's were promoting and wanted a more tolerant and inclusive society including a humanitarian response to the Syrian refugee crisis.
I for one applaud J&J ignoring the feelings of a coward who pepper sprays a crowd of women and children.
