@kds4e Exactly! My first guess about this event that happened in Canada was that it was likely someone from Cameroon in white face who had recently been a stowaway on an ocean liner who had the opportunity to jump ship in San Francisco but opted for Vancouver because of the skiing at nearby Whistler and who holds a grudge against his fellow Muslims.

@kds4e ➡ Good point. But I would bet that it was a Canadian, +/ at least, a landed immigrant. Someone who seems to believe that (S)HE is somehow "better" than these people fleeing war, death, + discrimination. It's a mystery to me , how just because WE won the planet's DNA lottery, that makes us better as human beings , or MORE deserving of living in a place that is safe + in a country of plenty ! PEACE ♥

@Mrs.Grundy's Fear is Scary - Do you think that there are no Muslims with differing views already in Canada. The ME is full of Differing views of Islam, hence ISIS. Ya, maybe it was a Martian.
And guess what. These new arrivals are going to be Canadians very soon so we, and you, might as well start treating them as such right now.

After reading some nasty, hate inciting comments on this site for the past few months,we should hang our collective heads in shame. These acts are spurred by frustrated, small minded people goaded by the posts and twits of others.
Of course, the problem ones won't be able to draw the conclusion I'm trying to impart. Probably wasting my time.

@Mrs.Grundy's Fear is Scary I agree but I will go so far as to say even the anti-Liberal or anti-Conservative comments are divisive. Why can't we just get along, even supporting two different parties we should be able to be civil. Yes, some things done by each party are not what we want but do we have to post negative comments about them. Canada is a great country and we have many government officials who are doing their best as they see it. I have liked Liberal governments in the past and... » more

CBC gives posts by neo-nazis like deirYassin, moerbrugge, and Justice4all not just equal weight, it protects them because it wants controversy.
Go look at any story about the middle east, you will see that the most liked comments are always anti-semitic hate propaganda. Always.

Unfortunately, everyone is entitled to have their own view and verbalize those views as they feel fit to do so. This is freedom in its true sense - the same freedom allows homosexuals to get "married".

Re: "everyone is entitled to have their own view and verbalize those views as they feel fit to do so."
That is where we completely disagree. A vebal assault designed to instill fear in it's target, and tribal hatred among the mob...is not on equal footing with a civil debate. Where all sides are heard and not shouted down or assaulted physically/verbally.
That's where the 'small minded' comes in. Some cannot fathom that distinction.

@Mrs.Grundy's Fear is Scary If you think about it, it's not just Muslims that are targeted. It's First Nations, East Indians Roma, etc. Canada has a small minority of racist AH's that target everything that their fear based thinking cannot allow. I'm sad for them. Think Ezra Levant.

We live in a society that allows free speech. Just because someone has a different opinion, you label it hate. You are right to hang your head in shame for your intolerance to those who have an opinion that does not dovetail with your view.

@Mrs.Grundy's Fear is Scary that's just the problem. If one says that a person should reveal their face during a swearing in ceremony, they are shouted down, called intolerant and told their views are hateful. We do not have a discussion about how this view does not equate banning the niqab but simply puts a small limit on this freedom, just like all freedoms have limits.

@JC_SK_CAN Actually, Islam is as diverse as any other religion, so why would you lump all practitioners into the same category as there are radicals, moderates, liberals etc. within that faith, like with any other faith. They arrived with nothing and were given nothing...but HOPE for a better life.

Spraying pepper spray is not the Canadian way! The country is a peaceful, kind, gentle and at times too welcoming. However, this story suggests those opposed to massive refugee resettlement are not limited to CBC commenters. It shows that not all Canadians are opening their arms to welcome refugees from the Middle East.
Although I disagree with the government's decision on welcoming plane loads of refugees this is not the way to voice your disapproval of the country's actions.

@Roundhead With the rhetoric of people like Trump and his supporters, we could see a continued increase in anti-Western sentiment from average moderate Muslims who never ever had a violent thought in their heads. Once they are treated as second-class citizens, radical Wahhabists will have a bigger pool of disenfranchised people to choose from.

@TC yes, the supporters of terrorists do all they can to encourage the disenfranchisement of a people, and create an "other" to hate and fear. However don't ignore that one of the biggest supporters of terrorism to undermine regimes they don't like, is the Americans. So not too surprising that they are also where a lot of the anti Muslim propaganda (Trump, Site, Pamela Geller etc) comes from.
