When we stand at attention to the American Flag we are honoring the lives of all those in the military who constantly protect us and have sacrificed everything, including laying down their very lives for us. Bringing other platforms or viewpoints during this time such as Kapernick has done, clearly takes away from honoring them. Find another platform to use other than our Flag, as you are doing nothing more than spitting on the graves of those who have given everything for us.
Veronica L Dean
That is your opinion.... So you go for it. My opinion is that Kaep is not disrespecting the flag (like it has disrespected and disparaged and disregarded black people and other people of color, HERE in these United States). He is bringing AWARENESS to the UNEQUAL treatment by the police and other indoctrinated entities in these United States of America against people of color! #TeamKaep
James Adams
Veronica L Dean I Honor and respect what Kapernick is saying concerning people being mistreated. Every individual regardless of race or color, should be treated with equal dignity and respect in their lives. However, you can not in the same breath use a platform that disrespect's those who loved us so much that they died for us.
Veronica L Dean
You Sir, perceive his protest as such-disrespecting. I do not. He , IS NOT protesting those who have fought for this country, a country that enslaved people of color, stripped people of color of their land, oppressed people of color, marginalized people of color, etc... some of those same people you speak of applaud what Kaep is doing, some do not. Furthermore; of the some that do not, THEY hate Kaep because of the color of his skin.... yes, there are racist people who have fought in the armed forces.
William Girard ·
James Adams you are making that connection for yourself. Everybody keeps saying that he is disrespecting the flag. He is not turning his back to the flag or burning it or dragging it through the dirt. You make that connection because it lends credence to your argument. He is not disrespecting military, veterans, KIAs, MIAs or POWs. You racist fools dress it up that way because that is what racist fools do. They can't discuss anything intelligently so they make up lies and stand under them like an all covering umbrella to shield themselves from the rain of truth that comes from people attacking their lazy rhetoric.
Daniel Simpson
It's not the flag, it's the Star-Spangled Banner and if you think that's disrespectful look up the third stanza of the song. We no longer sing it for a reason.

James Adams Why would ppl of color stand for a flag during a song that was created when blacks were seen as 1/5 human..The person who wrote it owned slaves. We just got rights in the 60s man so what exactly has the flag done for minorities when we fought overseas for your rights only to come back home and not be able to use the same bathroom as white ppl. You can't be that stupid man. If you're not a minority I don't expect you to fully grasp it..its the not even trying part we have a hard time accepting

Veronica L Dean so please explain what will kneeling for the flag is doing but showing disrespect to the thousands that have died to, ironically, give him the freedom to do it?? What does the flag and national anthem have to do with police brutality??? Wrong Platform.....try going into the cities that are having these issues and work with the leaders there. The anthem s a chance to reflect and be thankful that we are free not a platform for you to show discontent with social issues. What else has Mr. Kapernick done besides creating racial tensions amongst our youth and setting mindsets back 200 years?

James Adams - While I can certainly see your point of view in terms of defending those who served in the military I'd like you to also keep in mind what Kaepernick is doing not just for himself but being willing to be ostracized, blackballed, called every nasty disparaging name known to man all because he's trying to shed light on something that has long been ignored, but most importantly speaking for those whose voices were also being ignored. So he not only put himself, his career, and if you listen to some of these idiots on the various message boards he's put his very life on the line defending all of those voiceless people, just something to consider

Veronica L Dean what the hell are talking about. When was the last time a black person was a slave. NOT one single person alive today ever owned or supported slavery. I'm from the south, but my grandparents are from Ohio and South Dakota. I case most of you don't know, when I was in the Army, most of the guys I served with were black. I do mean most. I was honored to serve with them. Many of those I went throught basic with died in Nam. Refusing the honor the flag that these blacks served for means he is a coward and a disgrace to those blacks. Do I believe there are major problems in this country related to blacks being treated right, no. I believe there are major problems in this country where Americans are not being treated right, yes they are Americans. Some do bring the problem on themselves, but most don't. @KevinBurke ... can you tell me about how many African and Natives (of this land) were murdered (by various means) by the hands of Europeans that came here? @ClydeCarson ... so I guess you don’t believe in white privilege. I guess the US has ALWAYS TREATED PEOPLE OF COLOR EQUALLY. You believe that racism can be miraculously eradicated in under 50 years? As a military vet I will say no person who has lost their lives or been in the military period should have fought for this country if they were looking for "pats on the back for it". I as a vet will sit during the anthem if i choose and dont feel anyone who does should be critisized for doing so. The flag is a symbol of freedom not freedom itself.
Cody Mosier ·
I like how as soon as someone disagrees with Colin Kaepernick it immediately makes them a racist. There are no Africa Americans, there are no Asian Americans, or any other kinds of Americans. We are all Americans. None of us were slaves, we weren't slave owners, very few of us have lived in different countries. As soon something bad happens to a black person it's immediately racist and people bring up slaveru. Slaves are a thing of the past for a reason. Was it right? No. AND that's the reason it got abolished. Funny thing about it all is that black people also owned slaves. Black people also kill black people as well as white people. The day when people stop throwing the race card up for every matter is the day that this country can begin to grow and become an united nation.
Veronica L Dean

Veronica L Dean those numbers are Facts. You can't argue facts with opinions. And for the 99.9% of Police that so good things and keep people safe, he is also protesting. Why would somone be so stupid to protest .005% of Police that are the problem.. Maybe the police should protest responding to 911 calls when people need their help then see how they feel about them. Police do a wonderful thing for this country. And it's a very very very small percentage that are a problem. It's sad for what police have to go through and people like Kap protest them
Veronica L Dean
@ChrisDecker... Sir, this Country HAS ALWAYS BEEN DIVIDED!!! It’s even in the constitution.... black people were considered less than human, back then, and some white folks, today, STILL WANT IT TO BE THAT WAY.
Dustin Weiser ·
Veronica L Dean so the flag treated these folks horribly, or select individuals? I'm confused...if it's a dirty cop(s) shouldn't you protest them? If it's supposed inequality within certain industries shouldn't you protest them? Why are we using the flag and anthem to protest individuals? That makes literally zero sense?
Joe McMillian ·
Veronica L Dean your right its an opinion the problem is when facts are produced people dont accept them
Cody Mosier ·
Veronica L Dean all of the stuff I see you describing are things that are no longer relevant. The constitution is an outdated document from 100s of years ago. The Europeans that murdered Africans and Natives are no longer here. We are not those people! How did those Africans get here in the first place? Did white people go over there and hunt them down like animals? No. Their own people sold them. Still doesn't make it right. When was the last time you saw a slave? That's right me neither. There comes a point where white people can do no right. Are there still racists? Hell yeah there is. Is it better than it was 50 years ago? Hell yes it is! There have been officers in line of duty that have been in the wrong. However, there are lots of situations where there life could be in danger and they acted to possibly save there lives. Put yourself in some of there shoes, how would you react if a person of any color could possibly put your life in danger?
