A manager at the Brooklyn franchise apologized, but parent company Dunkin’ Brands claimed the store’s confusing layout led the cops to order at a closed register — an explanation that police unions have called “an insult.” Oh now that's rich coming from cops who love to throw around insulting explanations for wrong doings.

But on the other hand, supposing Dunkin Donuts' policy really is to never serve police, wouldn't a boycott just give them what they want?

What's the NYPD's goal with this? "Free" Donuts and Coffee and maybe the Dunkin's will get a bit more cop presence to ward off criminals. it's a dance that's been around as long as cops have existed, stores that give them freebies or discounted prices and special treatment are better protected against the criminals than stores that don't. Especially in big city areas.

If the police don't like it they can simply change occupation. Or maybe not wear their uniform to buy donuts. Or if we believe Dunkin Donut's explanation, they should just go to a register that's open.

It wasn't confusing, they just didn't want to make the cops feel worse about standing in the wrong place. Also the police union support Trump joking about police brutality but they complain about this.

Colorahdo posted...What's the NYPD's goal with this? The origin itself goes back to the fact that besides a few select diners there weren't many other places open overnight or early morning so donut places started letting cops stay there to buy stuff and file paperwork. That said, nowadays most donut places are closed by 11 pm. Still open really early though

They didn't get service because they were standing in the wrong place, and the story has video evidence. Moreover even with them being in the wrong the owner said sorry. A boycott is only effective if you tell people. As a kid I remember my mom telling anyone who would listen that Carl's Jr was evil as they wouldn't sub a milk for soda. The place near us at least changed the policy so maybe in my mind boycott seems normal.

That's cool and all but how about answering my question instead of deflecting to something else.Being a cop is a choice. Being gay or lesbian is not. You know what you're getting yourself into when you choose to be a cop. You have no control over the potential issues you can face when you are born homosexual. Next.
For the record I think it's s***ty to refuse service to someone just for being a cop. But that didn't even happen here apparently.- Boards
