Cursive writing really isn't necessary outside of signing your own name. Anything important is likely going to be typed up on a computer and anything that can't be print writing will usually suffice as it's often more readable than people's cursive writing.

Also interesting origin story of cursive writing.

It was invented to reduce the amount of times you needed to lift the quill to dip into ink. Didn't help quills could break easily too.

Now that we have pens with ink inside them, it really doesn't matter if you need to life the pen up more.
I'm right in the middle for the range of years to be considered a millennial and I can write in cursive. I don't, though, because it's pointless. Next you're going to complain that we aren't going to the library to study even though the internet has far more resources and is always more up-to-date.

So far nobody has given an actual reason why cursive is useful. It is pretty much just a dumb tradition kept alive by baby boomers at this point. It will die with them, and nobody will miss it, nor will they even notice it. It is basically just Radioshack.

Cursive writing has been around for way longer than the boomers. It's pretty much a relic of quill pen days.

It is if you write with a quill in 2017. For everyone else, no, you legitimately do not need to know cursive except to read holiday cards from your grandparents.

I know it has been around way longer than baby boomers, but they are the ones KEEPING it alive. The kind of people who still write checks for $8 at Sears, and then hold up the line at the counter to record their $8 purchase in their pocket book.

At least in the case of Pluto. Pluto was classified as a planet. Scientists eventually changed the definition of a planet, because scientists were finding things bigger than Pluto past Neptune. Which brought up the question "what is a planet?".

It's f***ing pointless and stupid, and I'm on the border of gen x and millennial. It was mandatory to write that way in elementary school after I learned it. As soon as it wasn't mandatory, I dropped it. I do however believe it's still valuable to know how to read it though. It's used enough so that I can appreciate being able to read it, but I would never use it for writing under any circumstances.

I still can for the most part but there are a few letters (upper case versions)that I never did fully master in cursive.

It's much faster and easier to write cursive. It looks much better than print too. So the argument that cursive is useless doesn't make sense to me since it's much neater, faster, and easier in my opinion. If cursive is useless you might as just well say writing is.

And just because new technology comes doesn't mean we should stop learning certain skills. That's silly and very short sighted. We might not always be afforded these things. They rely upon certain things and it could stop working at the drop of a dime. Besides it's not fun being a brain dead vessel. I for one don't wanna merge with machines.

I have long since been a proponent of teaching kids how to find the information online instead of memorizing it. There is no reason to force people to learn cellular biology. The things that should be memorized are the things you'll need to know on the spot like how to conduct yourself during a job interview.
