I'm not even white but I don't need other minority characters that are supposed to be different in the original source material
Don't pander to me, just stay true to the source.

What would the outrage be if they made a Blade movie and Blade was a white dude?

I feel that Laura Harrier's character should have been MJ instead. If only for she is more like what MJ is than Zendaya's character was.

I don't give a f*** what color the actress/actor is tbh.

I would have been perfectly fine with an original character love interest of any race. Just... Don't change established ones.

Yeah... I feel like the red hair is more important than the skin color.

But as has been said, this "MJ" is named Michelle, not Mary Jane, so meh. Well, even if she was officially Mary Jane, I don't care enough to get riled up about it, but still I like characters to be the characters they are supposed to be. Regardless of looks, her personality was WAY off from Mary Jane.

They aren't. This is a new character named Michele. Her nickname being MJ is more of an easter egg. She isn't Mary Jane.

Not racist at all. I'm black and I hate when they turn random characters black just to be "inclusive". Just make new black characters

That said. This is not Mary Jay. It's a new character, like pretty much all of them in the movie. It's a different universe, so it's cool.

She can dye her hair red like the other actresses if it so important tbh. I don't feel it is, but it is possible.

But when they make new characters then people go, "why did they make this new character? Where is so and so from the comics." Of course what homecoming did was worse as it made new characters and called them comic book characters.

I don't understand why people get upset over things like this, but never bat an eye when it comes to movies like The Great Wall, or Gods of Egypt

Like, who gives a s***. Isn't the MCU a completely different universe than the comics anyway?

Spider-Man is literally my favorite superhero, and has been since I was a little kid

And even I agree with his post

No one gives a s*** if they change the color of someone's skin in a movie that's set in a completely different universe anyway
If we can switch up Adrian Tombs' backstory as the Vulture and reinterpret a couple other members of the will be Sinister Six, we can certainly reinterpret MJ. And this character's name isn't even the same. Like how is this even applicable?

It's not even her skin. It's her backwards personality. I'm holding out hope that they do a 180 and have a modeling agency discover her in HS, but trying to discredit the opinions of the people most familiar with the source material by calling them comic nerds makes you look absolutely stupid.

No, it does. Wanting your favorite series to stay somewhat true to the source material isn't racist and it isn't weird that it matters to the fans. I distinctly remember you throwing a b**** fit over Scarlett Jo in Ghost In The Shell, so this is especially humorous for me.

Don't be dense. Comic MJ is short for Mary Jane. The intitials 'MJ' could be anything, as the rest of the topic has pointed out.

Well now that it's convenient for you to take that stance, of course you're going to claim the opposite. It's not stupid. At all. I loved the movie, but Flash's casting is a mistake and Zendaya doesn't display any traits of the iconic MJ. A simple name switch would have gone a long, long way.

I'm not. The argument of "It's not the same name" while having the exact initials of the intended character is simply irrelevant. I loved the movie, but you guys acting like it was without its flaws are just laughable. Tom Holland was perfect in every way, but the supporting cast needs work.

I disagree. I can certainly see shades of some of Mary Jane's more glib moments in Zendaya's MJ. I want to see their banter in the next movie once she's less of a supporting cast member and more center stage. And that's assuming they don't throw us a curveball and introduce Gwen.

Who needed work? Okay Aunt May didn't have enough to do here, but they've fixed that. Even the Prowler got it some really good moments, and he's just an easter egg.

I can see how she could develop into the MJ from the comics, fur sure, but she didn't resemble her much at all in the movie, imo.

I don't think Michelle has any interest in fashion or acting. It's not present in her characterization thus far. She also doesn't have Aunt Anna acting as her harbinger, and needling Aunt May and Peter about taking her daughter out on a blind date. Beyond their conversation dynamic, I don't ever see Michelle moving any closer to Mary Jane from the comics.

Your first mistake was assuming I was outraged by it. I'm not. I'm hopeful. I just know it could have been a lot better had they either introduced Zendaya as her own, new, independent character rather than tacking on the iconic initials that greatly imply fairly important details in the universe.

Fingers crossed, bruh. Even if they develop her further into someone that simply motivates Peter between right and wrong and makes his choices clearer, I'll take her as MJ. If she even utters the words "Go get em, Tiger." I'll take her. I just NEED some resemblances, lol.
