- I am pre-emptively pissed about the SNES classic >_>
The SNES is my favorite system of all time and I REALLY want one of these, especially since the controllers of my old SNES are basically dead. But all the pain from the NES classic is flowing back in my body and I have zero faith I'll actually get a SNES at a decent price, if at all.
These last 10 minutes have been an emotional rollercoaster lol >_>

ya im in the same boat as you, i desperately want to play an SNES again (not just a ROM) with the controllers and all, but I lost my original SNES. but i know im going to be let down as this system is only going to go to scalpers who will have bots purchasing every SNES mini on earth, and nintendo is only going to make like 50 of them because they dont know how to run a business

Don't get pissed off at Nintendo when people are dumb enough to throw away their money on Amiibos. While that may be true, they are going to short the SNES Classic just like they do everything in high demand. So yes being pissed at nintendo is perfectly fine in this case.

Nintendo just released a statement about availability:
Throughout September, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Super Nintendo Entertainment System: SNES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it will be difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

They made tons of Wii consoles while the PS3 was scarce. You'd think they would've continued like that. What? Clearly you weren't around in 2006. The Wii was sold everywhere the day it came out. Even 6 months from release people were struggling to get ahold of it. My dad and I went out at midnight the night before, and 4 Walmarts already had more people in line than they had consoles, as well as 2 best buys. We managed to get the 20th or so out of 45 that a Cicuit City had in stock. They were a hot f***ing commodity.

I mean they made them over and over. They had demand and while they couldn't keep up with it, everyone that wanted one eventually got one. Nintendo has a HISTORY of shorting every big release they ever come out with. They KNOW their new device (whatever it may be) will sell like hotcakes, but instead they go the "safe route" and let scalpers run with their products. They could produce DOUBLE anticipated supply and it would all ultimately sell, yet nintendo continues to insist on creating artifical shortages on everything they release.

but instead they go the "safe route" People have been claiming that the company is dying for years now, why b**** that they're taking the economically safe route? The internet doesn't get to b**** that they're playing it safe and also claim that they're dying. God f***ing damn.

Dustin1280 posted...but instead they go the "safe route" The safe route would be to take buy orders, then produce and fulfill the buy orders, then shut down production. Instead, they're producing some arbitrary low number, FULLY UNDERSTANDING THAT MANY PEOPLE WHO WANT ONE WON'T GET IT, and then shutting down production despite super high demand. This isn't the safe route. This is the stupid route. |

The part about shutting down production is what I would've put in caps. Wait until sales slow massively then pull the leftovers to give away at events. Or they could paint and sign the leftovers to re-release in a few years as ultra-rare limited editions. But I'm a dumb f*** and not going to pretend to know how to handle their business better than them.

Nintendo creates artificial shortages for every big release. This is true, Apple does it too. It's part of the marketing. Again, another than your personal butthurtism, why is it the wrong move? How could you possibly know any of the numbers involved?

how do people still not get these are collectors items not intended to be mass produced and not intended to be played as you would a normal snes (as if having 20 games didn't make the latter point obvious enough)

According to the Q&A section, it doesn't seem like we yet have a time for when it will go up."If the day does not require an AK, it is good." The Great Warrior Poet, Ice Cubehttps://www.gamespot.com/articles/significantly-more-snes-classics-will-be-produced-/1100-6451190/On the bright side, more systems will make it to market than last time around. "We aren't providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition," Nintendo said in a statement shared with GameSpot.
Since Nintendo is refusing to give actual numbers, I would take this to mean that everyone is probably going to be s*** out of luck again.
You could certainly call a 25-50% increase in production "significantly more" and it still won't make much of a difference. If Nintendo actually planned on making them widely available, they would say as much.
Also, as of now they're planning to only make it this year:Nintendo's current plans are only to offer it this year. "Super NES Classic Edition is currently planned to ship from Sept. 29 until the end of calendar year 2017," it said. "At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year."
