Some context: The RIME developer made a public comment on how he's glad he didn't develop the game while reading gaf because "the game would probably never have come out". He states that he sat down and read through a thread about his game and "cried for two days". Clearly someone unadjusted to the internet but hey. Hope his game is good. Anyway this sparked quite the thread on GAF, leading to the owner himself showcasing some sociopathic tendencies. Some choice quotes: "Also sounds like it would be pretty cathartic in any case. Did you emerge from your cocoon of tears a brave new boy new ready to face your first actual challenges in life? I bet you did! You're quite welcome." -no comment "Despite someone having a breakdown here and there, or someone making a public exit some other time, or whatever a blowhard on Twitter says, the industry and the press follow NeoGAF pretty closely, and most industry folks are totally chill about the site." -not only is he smelling his own farts here, but it cracks me up because he mentions the fallacy of appealing to pity earlier, but then proceeds to use ad populum (appeal to the masses). As in, most people think NeoGAF is friendly, so you're wrong. I'd like a statistic on that btw. I know I'd vote no because of my experiences with the staff alone. |

If you mention "crying for two days" about the fact that people didn't say nice things, what the f*** else is going to happen? A massage and a cup of warm cocoa is brought your way? Jesus Christ, people need a thicker skin or the ability to know when to avoid particular situations. We're all humans with emotions, but past a point it becomes f***ing weird. My old boss interviewed a guy that said he used to cry in the back at his old job. WTF?! Yeah, he obviously was not hired and we all exchanged c***-eyed glances about it when he told us.
I know whenever I see some dude on here talking about "grabbing some tissues", it makes me roll my eyes and reply sarcastically. Is it a dick thing to do? Yeah, it is, but that's life on the internet. I feel embarrassed just reading it, and I wear my emotions on my sleeve... You have to know your audience, and a bunch anonymous forum users can really go in any direction. That's the risk you take when you participate. Don't get me wrong, there are limits, and I am glad we have a ToS that's somewhat strict here. Some people are just so naïve and socially awkward to the point it becomes this uncanny valley of sorts... I think most users strike a nerve with somebody eventually, but there are varying degrees of this and it can escalate in a couple of ways. You just can't let it get to you. Most of what people say online they wouldn't say to someone's face, and while you could say it's cowardly, it can also mean they're not a sociopath. Well, I am rambling now, so bye.

Haven't read the gaf thread and I don't intend to, but RIME looks like an earnest and respectable game, and I can't fault the devs being personally invested in their project and being hurt by negativity.
I don't care for devs LASHING OUT with anger at negativity surrounding their game, but hurt feelings (with no mud slinging at their fans/the press) is understandable and fair. Not all criticism is constructive (most of the criticism on the internet is not)

As a resource, though, it's probably the best there is. You'll even often find patchnotes for things there before even the f***ing official websites have them, which is stupid.

Is there an actual way to see what post caused someone to get banned? Linking a post with a banned user doesn't prove that was what caused the ban. Neogaf is just run by a rapist who is racist and sexist, so to try and fix his image, he's made the rules about being diverse and inclusive while hiring mods who despise straight white males, trump supporters and anyone who dislikes sjw.
So the community there seems to excuse his past behavior more now because "he's fostered a community of likeminded individuals that hate most of society". He's pretty much the success story in "how to be a piece of s*** and fix your image" >_>

Yes, they can, but the people they are being honest to may also do the same. Sometimes that means bad things happen. Is it right? Irrelevant. It's possible and that needs to be taken into account before you open Pandora's Box. Know your audience. If people are ripping into you already, the last thing any intelligent person would do is dump gasoline on that fire. This whole "only one side can do anything" bulls*** drives me crazy. Frankly, I'd like to see Trump gone because in the 4 or so months he's been president he's shown that he's clearly inept at the position and that he doesn't really have any interest in actually governing the country. Should never have even gotten to the Russia stuff. Electoral College didn't do their job and stop a clearly unfit man from being president and now the U.S. pays the price while a number of people are clearly okay with that just because they get to go "Checkmate, Liburls!" on the internet. Frankly, I'd like to see Trump gone because in the 4 or so months he's been president he's shown that he's clearly inept at the position and that he doesn't really have any interest in actually governing the country.

I don't see how they have become lax. They seem to moderate anything truly offensive. Hell, I got warned for posting in the politics section a few times lol.
