Nintendo Fanboys Want Dock Scratches To Be Fake News So Badly

  1. Boards
  2. Nintendo Switch
  3. if im careful with docking it, should scratches be happening?
CRIMSON_XIII 11 hours ago#1
or was that other thread a joke thread ?

cant find a decent protector that ships quick so im debating on whether i even need it.

surely nintendo made it so that if you gently place it in the dock, and not throw it in as hard as you can with your eyes closed// it wouldnt scratch,

what do you think? (of course nothing is scratch proof and you can drop and scratch anything) hopefully i dont get a BUNCH of smartass replies, it is a dumb question but i really dont think that itll scratch too quick if you insert it as gently as the ppl were in the showcase on jan 13th.

im not asking about dropping it, im asking about the dock specifically

I think the TC was trolling in the other topic, but he wasn't wrong about potential scratching. After docking very gently, about 4 times, mine had marks at the bottom corner. Most of it wiped off, but a tiny spot won't come off. Now, it is nothing like the picture in that topic, but it is enough to irritate me. I would highly recommend getting a screen protector first.

My experience so far is that as long as you drop the Switch straight into the dock and pull it straight out (not at an angle) there's no contact between the screen and the dock.

it's bound to happen
people always say to just be careful, but by that point you'll just be playing operation every time you need to dock it

Do you have a local Gamestop? Most of the ones in my area had plenty of protectors in stock.

I would definitely order a screen protector.
Starlord12 10 hours ago#9
If you are gentle when putting it in and out of the dock, the screen should be okay without a screen protector. I have no protector atm, and I been taking it in and out of the dock a lot (probably 10 ten times now), and I have zero scratches.
If you are skeptical of everything, you wind up not trying anything.

I think there may be inconsistencies in the build quality of the docks. My dock, no matter how you put the Switch in, makes firm contact at the bottom.

I got one at Walmart TC for $6 and some change since I did not want to wait for it to be shipped. It came with a red Switch cleaning cloth and soft cardboard to press the bubbles out. I went to a dust free as possible area in my home and applied it. Came out gorgeous, nothing trapped under it. I also applied it the second I took it out the box.

As far as the dock I never noticed any contact etc...and if you are gentle with your s*** then I am confident you wont have a issue with scratches.

It does attract dust and the screen can get fingerprint marks on it, but an easy clean up will do the trick. I'll probably get a protector anyways, because I am too careful with my expensive gadgets. However, I don't think anyone needs one, unless you know you can't help yourself by throwing it in the dock, theeeeen get one lol.

The only reason Nintendo put a plastic wall in front of the screen was to give the visual of a plastic box. If people saw the screen they would think portable, and ask why the second screen isn't being used. But the plastic wall is pointless, and I'm not even sure there are any electronics inside.

I wonder if you could cut off the wall. Or, I wonder if someone will sell an extension cable that allows you to "dock" by cable.

Well, those aren't probably even scratches, but more like paint coating getting scratched off. Reading that people can wipe the marks away. Also, skins apparentle damage the coating as well.

Now, whatever the issue is be it sharp corners or cheap coating, do you want to endure stress from something that is made for entertainment and reduce your stress, not add more?

To be honest, i wouldn't use the dock for now. Hell, i wouldn't even buy one currently. Some also say they can even make scratches with their fingernails. There's really no excuse for this s***. Nintendo went extremely cheap route this time and all who bought NS should get their systems replaced by product which doesn't have these issues.

there comes a point when the scratch happens when you jam it in, IMO, i can see this. i treat my s*** with care though, ill use both hands and gently place it in and not press down.

and the screen smears happen to phones too, easily wiped off.

ill have to see, no stores close by as far as target and bestbuy have the 19.99 one. i heard the 7.99 one doesnt fit the screen

If any of you are actually worried about this you could try putting small felt feet inside the dock at the 4 corners so the screen never touches. Or just be careful when putting it in/out to not touch the screen to the plastic.

I haven't been particularly careful so far, have docked/undocked it several times and my screen is still perfect.
mikey_205 10 hours ago#23
You may as well get a carry case and screen protector combo. The 20 quid combo from amazon went on easily and gives me piece of mind.

what if you place it in with the back edge touching the dock , and place like a piece of paper in between screen and dock ?

Paper? No, don't do that.
You do know that paper is made from wood and can scratch it right? The same as how you wood never want to wipe a screen with a napkin, tissue, paper-towel or any other paper product...

Handheld mode FTW.

Seriously though, I wouldn't risk it. Get a screen protector.

The dock is s*** you should rarely use it. either put the console in the dock and leave it there for tv play or use the dock only when charging. The dock is going to cause a lot of you to break your switch if you want to keep trying to act cool putting the system in and out of the dock. I seen a lot of peoples smart phones screens and device all busted up and the switch will be that times 10 for the people who are trying to be cool like the comercials with there switches. the dock is just to flimsy and doesnt have any stability at the bottom. it needs those triangle prisms at the bottom on boths sides like the ps2 dock.

May the game gods have mercy on anyone who has the switched docked on a high up tv stand with a hardwood floor and who have kids.

If it's anything like the Wii U screen, I only made a few hairline scratches on that after years of use and I went HAM with the stylus as well.

yeah yeah i just realized after i wrote it, i was thinking about super thin micro fiber if available or somethin to insert it between the screen and dock, i wipe my phone screen with my hoodie sleeve, i may do the same with the switch , \

in any case, as someone else said, ill probably rarely use the dock

Ah, that I haven't scratched at all either.

That dock, however, might end up doing it for me.

Smudges but no scratch thus far using the dock repeatedly. I can see it happening if you're docking and undocking at an angle, rather than straight up and down.

yeah same.

in all honesty, the way ive seen western unboxers jam the joy con attachments on, wrong way, smash it in the dock altogether with it tipping over on angles.

very harsh treatment imo, the way ive seen screens dropped during the actual box opening because it was upside down

Thinking of buying his and trying it haha. Would they say well this at michaels or a craft store?

you dont even have to stick it on imo, id prbably try to slide it in each time i put the switch in.

gonna ask Moms if she has any of this material, thin , id rather slide this is than stick anything on or use a protector.

seems like after a google search, the one you posted is 1,58 millimeters or 1/16th of an inch.

i think it is likely that this small amount of length is available while the switch is docked. if anyone can confirm , itll be fine.
