No Whites In Mass Effect

  1. Boards
  2. Current Events
  3. So apparently Mass Effect Andromeda is not allowing people to create white chars
characters*

It doesn't come to a surprise after seeing Manveer Heir's hate against white people:

You mean pale. You can make characters with skin tones that would be socially grouped as belonging to the white race. And they're fixing the issue.

I think there's only an argument for discrimination if you can make the characters really dark skinned, as the dude says there's a limit to the skin tones available

Considering how bad Andromeda looks, pale skin will most likely look just as terrible as normal skin does in Dark Souls II.

Which one?

The first, maybe, since the setting was intended to be highly reminiscent of (almost mirroring) medieval Europe (plus magic and monsters). I don't think there were any black characters period. By the time Inquisition rolled around they had changed gears and decided to step away from that aesthetic in the name of inclusiveness.

That's a flawed argument that shows up in all sorts of fantasy and sci-fi discussions. There are different aspects of suspension of disbelief. The setting is European fantasy, so no, magic and trolls and dragons do not break that setting. Black people, cars, and education certainly do.

If it were a historical European setting and a dragon shows up, then you would have a point because they clearly don't care about keeping within a theme.

The whole continent has heavy ties to European countries and regions, not just Orlais and Ferelden. Tevinter is the Byzantine Empire, Qunari are the Moors, the Free Marches are the Holy Roman Empire, Antiva is Italy, Rivain is Spain, and so on.

The other continents are only talked about in legends (such as where the Qunari came from). Only one continent (Thedas, which is synonymous with the world to them) is ever mentioned to be known.

The lightest you can go is a tan reminiscent of Mediterranean skin tones. It's not "omg you can't be white as a ghost", it's "you can't be the majority skin tone of Europe and much of East Asia".

That's not even true though. You can 100% make a character with a fairly typical Caucasian skin tone.

I love how this logic work. Were there can be Troll,Elves,Dragons,Balrogs ect . But having a black person that just breaks the everything.

European fantasy has its own set of qualities. Magic and mythical beasts are part of that. The "European" part makes it so the prevalence of racial diversity like modern day America is out of theme. The "fantasy" part makes it so magic and dragons are not out of theme.

On first glance yeah they look white. But it's clear those are intended to be Hispanic/Mediterranean character models and their hair was set to blonde. They didn't even change their eyebrows.

These are apparently the lightest characters you can make, too.

Just run the game without the patch, use the quickstart character model, save and then update the game. I'd be surprised if it overwrote the character model afterwards.

Orcs, elves, and dragons are common occurrences in European medieval fantasy. Black people are not, despite one's encountering of a black person in that setting not being as surprising as encountering a mythical beast. Audiences expect orcs, elves, and dragons in their European medieval fantasy. They do not expect black people. It has nothing to do with what we expect in our world.

This is a clear sign of racism with the liberal agenda they're trying to push

The hell does this even mean 90% of the people who will be playing the game are white what agenda needs to be pushed

But it's clear those are intended to be Hispanic/Mediterranean character models

    How is it clear?

    I dunno, go outside?

That doesn't answer the question at all. Was hoping for at least an entertaining attempt to explain how those are clearly Hispanic/Mediterranean characters. Oh well, your weird attempt at a post got a good laugh out of me.

I don't have the technical knowledge of a plastic surgeon or anthropologist to give you a scientific breakdown of what features make them look Hispanic without sounding racist so I'm going with "if you see it, you see it."

Well that's obvious or you would know that their physical traits are entirely European or you're just trolling. FYI "hispanic" is an ethnicity that consists of several races and mixes so there isn't really a hispanic "look".

    1. The argument isn't that you can't make anyone technically considered white, it's that you can't make someone with a light skin tone, which happens to encompass the vast majority of white people.

    2. There are multiple Hispanic looks, not none.

Guys, this isn't racism. The only racism here involves the guy who has made it a point to express how much he hates white people, and who just so happens to be involved with the development of this game.

Wait a minute, that's actually worse.

    1. You implied in your last post that their features made them look non white and that's what I replied to.

    2. Yeah and there's multiple white looks. They fit.
    I'm very reasonable.

You get modded based of your posting history so if you've been modded multiple times.es before your more likely to get modded for a topic like this.

If your record is clean you probably won't get modded.

Bioware is so racist that they made the default characters white and gave them generic "white" names. The anti-white agenda is strong.

I don't get how this concept is so foreign for some people. It's like you're trying to not understand it because your version has a funny quip and you like that better.

It is just dumb as hell. There were black people in mid-evil Europe and there were NO Elves,Dragons ect. But you guys are ok with seeing the thing that wasn't there but not ok with seeing the thing that is there. And hell it doesn't take away from the game/movie at all . Look at TES.
Bender: Well, everybody, I just saved a turtle. What have you done with your lives?
    1. Boards
    2. Current Events
    3. So apparently Mass Effect Andromeda is not allowing people to create white chars
