The level of comparison between breaking the law in real life versus breaking the terms of service on a message board is a little disproportionate, but the courts do penalize people more harshly based on level of crime committed, and how often they've been in the courts. Losing access to your account, and somehow comparing it to the death penalty is a little lacking in perspective.

Well, in all fairness, it's a whole team, and they have a CYA disclaimer that every mod has a different interpretation of the rules. I personally think that's bulls***, and there should be far more to the eval system to prevent an echo chamber, but remember these are volunteer gigs. They aren't paid to do this, so while I want to say most take it seriously, at the end of the day it's just some random dude the site trusts a tiny bit more than your average member.
