So was the dating Devin thing true or not? I thought I remember hearing that before, but nobody else is commenting on it. I don't frequent CE so I don't know what exactly happened, but I feel like that would have to play some factor in her quitting/being let go, assuming it was true. Was it really not a factor or is CE just trying to take all the credit?
|
Seems like a nice enough person, but was horrible at her job and the social media sites she handled for the site looked like they were being maintained by someone whose first language wasn't English. Noticed this a lot on the boards, too. Lots of "acct" instead of "account", and such. Very unprofessional.
And the way she handled the bover_87 situation (the stolen account which he became a mod on, and then the original owner came back) was atrocious. She stepped down after her contract expired (this is the official lore), but she was rotten at her job in the first place so I doubt she'd have been re-hired. She was specifically told not to let CE get to her and she did just that. Also, we never needed a "community manager" to begin with.
The world turns on its axis; one man works while another relaxes.
Alack, I have no eyes. |
She was a useless SJW who should never have even gotten the job.

Meh, blowing things out of proportion is what tends to habit when some sort of site figurehead / major person / etc. has something - positive or negative - happen to them. Had a fair amount of stuff like that happen to me too - sometimes hilarious, sometimes just sad, usually just annoying and inaccurate.
*shrug*
Plus you'd think CBSi could afford more than just 3 (well 5 but two barely visit so whatevs) admins. Gotta love it when people are cheap though. >_>

GameFAQs is one of their smallest holdings, but brings in more profit than most of the other sites, even Game Spot. Yet they won't hire full time employees because then they'd have to pay benefits, like health, and instead just hire part time. It's a common practice thanks to Obama Care.

I probably should pay attention to this kind of stuff. >_>

Why aren't you writing a guide for.... something? There's gotta be something out that you're interested in.
Well, there's an array of stuff.
Spud's Adventure on the GameBoy is still something I'm trying to finish. Trying to make a map for its dungeons was just sheer hell and I stopped touching it for like four months simply because mapping it was so hellish. I finished the first map (of the first dungeon) and went "okay, f*** this, I can't be arsed to finish the maps." I still want to make an FAQ for it but it ties into other stuff.
There's other games I want to write for. Final Fantasy I, III, IV, and V come to mind in the vein of bover's tactic of getting HTML guides out for the other games in the series. But I think the whole "dude, there's already plenty of guides out for them" thing is holding me back. I also have smaller guides in mind for IV and V at minimum - enemy lists and such - but I'm probably not going to follow that.
I was thinking of making a save state editing guide for Pokemon Red/Blue just because I got into watching a lot of glitch videos for Pokemon Red/Blue on YouTube lately (TheZZAZZGlitch and ChickasaurusGL being two main YouTubers contributing to that). And my best friend is trying to work out a guide for Picross e7 and we might cover a few Super Famicom Picross games together just ... well, because we're friends, no other reason.
And then there's that list of like 100 games I want to map. >_>
But overall, it's all basically held back by a few things - lack of motivation and being depressed. Dealing with university on top of that doesn't help, and the s*** home situation I mentioned in the FP topic doesn't help. (And then throw on top of that me not being at home - which sounds minor but it doesn't feel the same if I'm not writing the FAQs in the same place as I did from 13-18. I'm just weird. >_>) It's hard enough to make me update my guides - I left a major bit out of my Sun/Moon guide and couldn't get the motivation to fix it for like four months, just as an example - and that's not the only guide that's missing updates. >_<
I feel like I'm on the verge of just giving up.

Yeah I'm sure that's all that happened. You sound a bit disgruntled with the "they're too cheap" line so I'm betting there's more to the story. Companies usually don't "simply" nullify a job either unless some s*** goes down.

Software Engineers and Software Programmers like Devin make pretty good money, but he's right that even basic jobs in the tech sector pay decent money. Is it enough to live on? Depends where you live and if you're hired full time. In addition, CBSi is based in San Francisco, so the pay bracket is pretty high for California. Since Allen is telecommuting from another state, I'd assume he makes more than enough to live on as a Product Manager, and Devin makes enough to live in California. She came to CE for suggestions and listened to none of the suggestions. Taken from my theorize topic:
When Krystal109 was selected, users pointed out her lack of karma (only 50% of what her total karma could have been), and lack of notability outside of the contributor community, a lot of people saw her as a bad pick for the community manager position.
Krystal was a little too unaware and clueless about the GameFAQs community. This was made obvious when she offered LUE access as a prize in one of the GameFAQs contests (although improbable, it was still possible to win), and kept bickering with CE for most of her time as a Community Manager.
In July 2015, her userlevel was dropped from “60: Administrator” to “34: Icon.” She claims her contract ended, although Allen’s response (“Just posting only to confirm this isn't a glitch or anything, we have parted ways with Steph”) implied she was demoted. Whether she actually was demoted or not, I don’t know.
I can’t speak for Krystal as a Community Manager, and I’m not going to pretend that I know how she did - because I heard from moderators at the time that she was actually really good. Maybe Krystal was a good community manager, maybe her contract actually did end. From the circumstantial evidence I see, clearly something went wrong.

''I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.'' - MewtwoOf course I do, it was great blog material for when my Gamefaqs Users Against Censorship campaigning was at its peak.
Pros:
- Despite a terrible handling of the bover situation, I think the mod decks really started to clear around this time. I actually started getting overturns and apologies(!) when I disputed moderations, now I don't really get any moderations at all. The terms got looser and I don't know the extent of Krystal's involvement since it was behind the scenes, but there was a correlation.
- Actually responded to my PMs in a thoughtful manner, even though she probably knew I was going to complain about the parts I didn't like on my blog. I like to think we are on friendly terms.
Cons:
- Unprofessional. A lot of people thought this, and her reactions on CE didn't help any. When there are long-time users from 2000 or earlier and they accurately claim that a mod stole someone's account, don't call them whiny crybabies and liars for the entire weekend before Allen comes back on Monday and sorts it out.
- What was Gamefaqs getting out of it? Apparently not much, if they dropped the position that quickly. She was well-known for getting into arguments on CE but that's about it. I don't claim to be some expert on PR or community relations, but I think I could've done a better job.
they won't hire full time employees because then they'd have to pay benefits, like health, and instead just hire part time. It's a common practice thanks to Obama Care.
Obamacare has been such a bad program, I would say it's the single biggest drain on this economy. DC tried to mandate super-expensive plans and then acts surprised when nobody can afford to hire.
It's a pretty obvious question: If I was fired for being s*** at my job, why didn't they hire someone better instead of a different position?
What were the accomplishments you were proud of?
I thought people disliked her because they thought she was racist?
There was some comment where she said she didn't date black people (anymore) due to "cultural differences" - ironically I don't think anyone grabbed a screen of it, but it blew up on her later on and she confirmed to me in a PM that she said it.
So was the dating Devin thing true or not?
I don't remember hearing anything like this so I heavily doubt it.

More of that trademark condemnation of entire boards and some of the most active message board users on the site. Apparently the numbers aren't up to snuff for the higher ups, possibly due to things like staff hostility towards users or the site's trigger-happy moderation system driving people away, and Krystal's defense against this data was that her bosses simply don't understand how much the userbase sucks
It's easy to forget, but this site once went all-out with taking down messages when anyone made a general statement against political groups. Not just the typical complaints like "*sigh* liberals...*sigh* conservatives" I mean all-out. It was actually so bad that people were modded when they criticized ISIS as a group. It could offend someone!

So you guys got that? Just because someone belongs to a "bad group" of "f***ing terrorists" doesn't mean you get to make any generalizations about these bad terrorists...uh, isn't that what you did? Oh and sorry dude, but if we accepted that ISIS was a bad group then it's one slippery slope away from becoming a world where no mod knows who we can and can't generalize as a bad group, therefore we can't let you do it for clearly bad groups.

Weep not for the memoriesI may not go down in history, but I will go down on your sister. One man's embarrassment is another man's knowledge. I'm just glad that I can back my positions up with documentation and give accurate answers to questions.
I just remembered that "The man who cared too much" got added to my signature after Krystal made similar comments. Not a bad thing to be, and it wasn't even my job. Gamefaqs loosened up its restrictions and I was happy to play a part in that process.Hero/Legend of 261. Lover of life, free speech, etc. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/1196-

Holy f*** lmfaoYou had nothing to do with it.
I'm well aware of my own traffic at that time, including from the mod boards. Did I personally sit down at command center, make decisions and push the button? No. I was nowhere near that side of things. Did I call stuff out and bring people together? Yes. Never underestimate the power of public pressure.
Would you like to tell us more about your accomplishments?Hero/Legend of 261. Lover of life, free speech, etc. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/1196-

First off you have no idea what you're talking about, and secondly you're an embarrassment when you do this. Only nutjobs take you seriously, and honestly I haven't ever seen any take you seriously for long.
Anyway Krystal was definitely dating Devin. For problems with the site, start here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/feedback/index.php?type=37Would you like to explain her accomplishments, then?Hero/Legend of 261. Lover of life, free speech, etc. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/1196-

Well she had a job, which is better looking than your lack of one to be replaced with an insane obsession with corruption on this website.

GameFAQs is one of their smallest holdings, but brings in more profit than most of the other sites, even Game Spot. Yet they won't hire full time employees because then they'd have to pay benefits, like health, and instead just hire part time. It's a common practice thanks to Obama Care.
Huh. I did not know that. That's interesting.
Yea.
As of January 1, 2015, employers with 50 or more full time equivalent (FTE) employees are required to provide health coverage to full-time employees or else pay a tax penalty.
It's one of the main reasons that companies don't hire many full time employees anymore, but rather a swath of part time employees for anything not administrative.
To be fair, they were doing that s*** long before the ACA came into existence; they just had a better reason to do it afterwards.Face it Cloud is a gaming icon and has appered in lots of games while mario has only appeared in 2 games sunshine and 64~xSlashbomBxKrystal109 posted...TaiIs82 posted...

Yes? You've always seemed like a charming person to me. What's up?
I love how tails insults me in this topic
I don't think insult is the accurate word for it. I summarized pros and cons, and answered questions about why your position was controversial. It could be helpful 2, 3 years later to look back on this and ask what could've been done better. From my viewpoint and CE's, which had a lot of topics closed at the time for heated reasons, it was like emotions got in the way of some decisions. When moderations are done on an emotional level, it's rarely a good thing. I have always thought, and the whole purpose behind my actions, was to remind people that this is an internet message board and it wouldn't kill anyone to keep those comments up. More than enough time has passed to remove the heated feelings that were there, and I don't see a reason to return to that. I've never disliked you personally.
If you would like to tell us more from your view, I could ask for the fourth time what accomplishments you're proud of.
and then has the balls to PM me and go "are we friends".
I asked after my "friendly terms" comment because I didn't want to speak for you. Would you like to be?
That's kind of funny actually. How is there also somebody named Tails82 (with an actual L)? Is it the same person? Why is Taiis so attached to the number 82 that he couldn't just come up with something else?
82 is a random number I just stuck with. The L and I difference was done early on when I noticed someone else had done it and in retrospect, it was a good idea. I've actually had some imitators before and if this account wasn't mine, someone else probably would've taken the name and got it banned by now. Then my accounts sortof split between board hunting and politics because it was the obvious thing to do. The name looks the same either way so everyone knows it's me.
Guess it's in case he gets suspended, he can still post his anti-censorship blog.
I don't worry about suspensions, or even moderations these days, and I never had to push my own blog - other people brought it up, and some even reached out to me with their tips or experiences on the site.Hero/Legend of 261. Lover of life, free speech, etc. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/1196-

@TaiIs82 be likeWill not change this sig until Tommy Wiseau wins an Oscar (Started 12-21-2014)I once accidentally found a forum where Tails would log every single moderation he received over the last like 8 years. It was hundreds of posts long.
